A dowry is provided by a bride, according to Wiki, Merriam-Webster and the Cambridge English Dictionary. 

Perhaps posters here have the wrong idea.

I cannot confirm from the text in the article, but perhaps her family provide the 2,000,000 cash and 5 baht of gold as a dowry, not the groom.

The dude pays the dowry flat and simple.

Well all the best to the couple.. now watch the relatives line up... the wayward relative demanding loans.. all in the name of family obiligation ..

But seriously, things would get better if Farang grooms started to ignore any request for dowry. We shouldn't be seen as substitutes for the Thai deliquescent old age pension.
