The fact that they had to dig around to find something (else) shows that even for official Thai standards in their little fiefedom this would not have sufficed and isn't an officially recognized rule.

There is a zig zag line and you don't know you cannot go under there ??? You say you cannot follow rules that don't excist ??? What does that zig zag line mean in your country ??? I think you are dumber then you look if you don't know that you cannot go under there empty or not , be happy it's empty then you can keep on walking without waiting in line . I think the only direction they had to bring you was out of the country if you don't understand simple rules like this , she totaly was in her right to drill you . With the increasing number of visitors from India, the IO's will need to develop a more flexible attitude to queueing styles.  Ducking under zig zag barriers when there's nobody else there will be the least of their problems.

Absolutely correct-  this is not a security issue but a line to keep order. Since no one was ahead, there was no real issue.  

 

The IO's reaction was uncalled for and it shows the complete lack of training and proper decorum of many IOs in Thailand.  Incidents have been reported before- with surly IOs acting improperly; thowing documents and passports and creating an unprofessional atmosphere/

 

This incident will be reported on social media and people all over the World will come to the conclusion that Thailand is not a welcoming place.   It will disuade some people not to come.   

 

All the IO had to do was in a normal tone of voice ask the visitors to not cross the tape- or put up a sign saying remain in the line.

 

It's rather ironic that the Op was coming for a Buddhist course, because the IO's in question  surely were not following the teachings of Budhism which Thailand insicates is their State Religion.

 

IMO a disgusting display of arrogance by the Ios who should be reprimanded and sent home.

Some posters should be ashamed of themselves, using degrading slurs to refer to certain IOs as "toms", "lesbians", "angry, loud-mouthed female", "rude, ignorant pigs", having "short hair", "high testosterone" or "PMT" with no justification to do so.   There's even a rule about it here!    

 

Attitudes such as those do show and can be picked up by IOs, good luck to them if they see it and treat you with the contempt that you deserve.  They don't have an easy job and clowns deliberately messing around with the IB's system or insulting them won't be looked at kindly.

A pal of mine was given the same treatment by an angry loud mouthed female IO for no reason. She tried repeatedly to get him to admit he was working in the LOS. 

 

She let him in eventually but it shook him up. People wanna relax on holiday not have to keep worrying when they are going to be the target of some rude, jumped up petty official. But it's at the discretion of these people and their word is final. You can do nothing about it.

 

They can pick on anyone any time. I don't even know if they'll even let me in next time and I have an O Visa that runs out just after my next trip. 

 

It will make many folk think twice about forking out thousands of Pound, Dollars or Euros on fights and hotels if they don't feel welcome let alone if they don't even let you leave the airport. Little wonder tourism is down.

You are just another paranoid complaining poster. Follow the rules at the airport, especially at immigration, and there's no problem what so ever.

Ive never had an issue with an airport IO , until last time.

 

I watched him deal most courteously with the holidaying couple before me , 

But when he saw my  Retirement stamp his whole demeanour changed.

He honestly went back and forth thru my 'not very busy' passport for 2 silent minutes.

Back and forth , counting on his fingers , thinking.

There was nothing wrong with my paperwork , nor my attitude. 

I was simply quietly concerned.

 

Finally he glared at me ,  stamped the page , and literally threw my passport onto the counter.

"Kian mai dee !" he barked.

Writing no good ..

 

Thais arent meant to act like this .

Its the contrary of , "Jai yen yen".

Something is going on.

I can well believe that. It was very similar to the experience my friend had with the female IO whose mind I was unable to read from 90 miles away in Pattaya. They seem to have developed a very hostile attitude to some falangs.

 

But try and explain it in a post and some will accuse you of being a rule breaker or a whinger or complainer.

 

In their eyes those Thais who work in an authoritative capacity can do no wrong. Makes you wonder what they were like at school and in the workplace.
