Salt Water Tank

Featured Replies

Finally ready toset up my salt water tank as we just moved house.

Anyone knows somebody who could set it up for me with some anemons and stuff in it.

Planning on putting mainly clownfish in it so anemons are a must I think?

Most beautiful tank I have ever seen is in the bar at Mabprachan lake Resort. Expertise must be on hand in there me thinks.

Having had aquariums for decades may I humbly suggest that you consider a

fresh water tank.

Why ?

Freshwater can support eight times as many fish as saltwater. (oxygen content).

If you have no expertize then your poor little Clownfish will die. :o

Just trying to help.

Naka.

Thanks Suiging :o

Our tank is fresh water!

Saltwater is indeed even more difficult to maintain, the smallest mistake can kill all your fish overnight!

In saltwater tanks you would definitely need to put the airpumps on a hefty UPS, even 10 minutes without the air going in when you have a powercut would make the fish really unhappy...

Keeping tropical aquariums over here ends up being more difficult then I ever expected, the main problem being the water getting to warm, especially now with the outside temperature getting pretty high!!!

Take a look for more info here...

Any good fish dealers in town.

Thanks Suiging :D

Totally wrong Monty! I`v had a saltwater tank for 3 years now, and it mainly takes care of itself. There is a hefty filtration system under the tank which only needs a bi weekly 5 min job; change the fine fitration filter and clean out the protein skimmer. Also topping up the tank with fresh water. And yes fresh water, as the water which evaporates from the tank is fresh water.

There are no need for airpumps, the hefty sirculation around the filtration system is enough. Agree on one thing thoug, it needs to be kept in your coolest room. Clowns, tangs and puffers do prefer aircon rooms.(Falang tendencies? :o )

There are plenty of aquatic shops around Pattaya, I bought my tank from a shop located in south Pattaya road. About 150m after you pass the Soi Kophai intersection, the shop is on your left heading for Suk. Have known the guy for years, and I happend to know he has a lot of big coustomers(Hotels etc.) around town.

Pm for phone# to the shop.

Sorry, always have been of the impression saltwater tanks are hard to keep.

Supposedly one of the most important thing is your feeding routine.

Any uneaten food very quickly turns the water bad.

I keep the nitrate levels low by simply changing 30% of the water capacity daily. Couldn't do that with a saltwater tank without upsetting the salt levels! (the 30% just gets drained out)

Dirk, I only have discus fish, which are probably the most colorful fresh water species around. Unfortunately also very susceptible to diseases, so I rely a lot on UV-C radiation to keep the water bacteria free (NOT the filters though)

If you've got some spare time, drop by Friday evening, several Thaivisa p*ssheads will be here as well!
