People hiding their faces during the arrest photo

Just because a person has been arrested doesnt mean the person is guilty. If you plaster their face with an allegation as yet unproven that wouldnt be right would it ?

After being successfully convicted I entirely agree, there should be no cover up.

Innocent until proven guilty springs to mind.

Anyone know why it's like this here?

It is. But it is fairly new.

Exactly for the reason that CharlieH described this has been changed a while ago.

Compare this with your home country.

I think basically....

For years, the cops took their PR jollies and got to see themselves on TV and in newspapers by parading around and forcing as yet un-convicted suspects to engage in re-enactments of their alleged crimes -- before they had ever had their day in court.

That eventually led to attention by various human rights groups who protested over the public paradings and re-enactments as violations of the suspects human rights.

Eventually, the Thai government responded to that by, at least at one point, supposedly issuing a police order against the parading of suspects and re-enactments. But as often is the case here, the adherence to the order didn't last very long.

And so at present, apparently, the police continue to do their re-enactments and parading of suspects.... but now most of the time are careful to have the suspects' faces obscured by masks, motorcycle helmets or otherwise to supposedly prevent them from being personally identified.

I'm sure you guys have seen this. Seems contradictory to take a mandatory arrest photo if the perp is allowed to hide his face. Anyone know why it's like this here?

A public photo of arrestees is not mandatory and anyone in that position is entitled to hide their identity, it's not a case of them being allowed to do it.
