Electric Supply To New House

Featured Replies

I should be moving into my new house in a months time and I am going to the electric office to ask to have a new meter put on. I have the house book and all the relevant paperwork, but I was told by a friend that he has been waiting three months for his meter to be put on.

When asked, " why didn't you try giving them a backhander" he said that was the wait for the people who had given a backhander. Is this time scale correct or has his Thai wife not organised things correctly.

Any comments from people who have gone through this procedure would be most welcome.

I think it depends on the luck of the draw as far as getting meters. When we hooked up our house there was some question about whether the size meter we wanted was available but then some new meters happened to arrive so we got ours right away...if we had requested it a month earlier we probably would have waited a month.

I really have no idea what you should do but you might ask them to call around to some of the neighboring electric offices to see if they have any....maybe even in the next province and offer to go fetch it yourself.....it seems unlikely that there wouldn't be one available somewhere!!!

When we had our electric supply connected, we went to the electric company office on the Monday morning, had the site survey (check, inspection) that afternoon, went and paid the money on the Tuesday, and had the meter and supply fitted on the Wednesday. No backhanders, extra payments etcc.. the guy who came to inspect wouldn't even accept a drink/snack from the shop.

Very pleasing experience.
