Several fish were found dead Sunday (January 26) on the beach in Sathing Phra district in Songkhla province.

Locals suspect leak from an oil rig in the sea had caused their deaths as the scales of the fish look smeared with oil.

With a blowhole and no gills, is that a fish in the photo?

How depressing... they can't even tell the difference between a fish and a dolphin / porpoise.  They even say the dead MARINE MAMMALS  had SCALES.  What hope is there for nature / wild animals here?!?!?!

I'm not sure.  That's why I asked.  It may just be the angle of the photo (obscuring gills) or the advanced state of decay (it looks like it has 2 blowholes, and that can't be right...)

Aren't you aware that the stuff that leaks "from an oil rig in the sea" is also scientifically proven to cause incredibly fast genetic mutilations on fish? google it.

Meanwhile, somewhere, a Songhkla-bound fishing boat has just finished flushing their bilges.

Maybe it is a misinterpretation of the Thai word for porpoise "plaloma", pla meaning fish, of course.  Same for whales, "plawaal".

So, based on @jak2002003's admitted best questioning guess and a couple of pictures of a partially decomposed fish, you criticize the locals for not knowing their ass from their elbow? You're the only one here claiming that the dead fish in the picture with two holes where crabs have gotten in and eaten the good bits may be "dolphin / porpoise" blowholes.

Maybe I am the only on here with the knowledge to know they are not fish.

There is a clue in the mouth of the animals.... look at their teeth and shape of the mouth and jaws.

Also, most Thai people still think whales are fish!

No. You may be simply one of several here who read 'fish' and see that picture of something that is NOT a fish but aided and abetted by a news report that is totally lacking in anything factual or really informative, conflate that with the inveterate Thai bashers claim that the locals are all hopelessly ignorant.
