I wonder is it really necessary to pay sinsord these days in thailand?

I was quoted pretty high.....one condo high, so I wonder if that price is overinflated or normal?

I never paid anything.

I married a 26 year old never married and no kids and paid 200k baht.  The mother borrowed gold and money from friends so at the wedding they announced 400k baht and were able to show it.  

 

I think the general rule of thumb is sinsod only applies to women who haven't been married before.  A condo is taking the <deleted>.  

 

 

The concept of sinsod is as fake as people who buy branded clothes, branded cars, sun glasses, hand bags and expensive watches.

Tell her if you have to pay you won’t bother getting married. Then see how much is about the money and how much is about being married.

You don’t think asking for 200K is taking the <deleted>........or was that your suggestion? 

1.5 million.... They asked for 2 originally, but we only had 1.5 spare ????

What's peoples issue with Sinsod ?? It's the custom here so just go with it, or insist to get married in your home country...

I paid 100k,

But there was no pretend relationship, I didn't know her, it was a straight purchase from her mom.

Slightly used with 1 kid, bodywork in good condition, always started first time, a very smooth ride.

Best 100k I ever spent.

No. That is a mugs game. We got married when we were living in England so could you imagine the reaction if I brought out a platter of money and gold to give to her family. I don't think I could ever face my friends and family again through the embarrassment if I did. 

 

Let the Thais stick to that outdated, showing off tradition.

I pointed out to my wife's family that a farang wasn't marrying their daughter, she was marrying a farang and as such the tradition in my country was for the bride's family to pay a dowry. Lots of glum faces all round and sinsod wasn't mentioned again.

I got a cool reception when I offered to buy my future MIL a fridge/freezer as sinsod.
