georgegeorgia
Is there any areas you wouldnt walk in Thailand for fear of street crime/ violence ? I avoid certain areas of Pattaya in the early hours eg walking street because of drunken hoons . 1
Popular Post CharlieH
I would think most cities of the world and not just Thailand have areas where street crime would apply. More so if you were inebriated. The violence aspect here in Thailand is a lot less common and usually is a response not an initiated action.(IMHO). So unless you provoke a situation its unlikely.
Popular Post 4MyEgo
I have walked down a lot of roads and allies (soi's) in the wee hours of the morning making my way back to my hotel in Phuket, Hua Hin, Pattaya, never an issue, apart from some ladyboys pulling up on motorbikes, but I am always one step ahead of them, e.g. always crossing the road and waving to someone for them to think I am with them or they can see me through the window of the building I am heading into if no one is on the streets. The above said, I always look over my shoulder, anywhere in the world.

One where I wouldn't be afraid if being sober myself Deserted badly lit Sois, walking always somewhat risky. Wearing the 10 oz gold chain, glittering Rolex? Not recommended. Drive up Pattaya park hill and see all the bag snatcher warning signs. Seen similar in Bangkok not far from Khao San. For Bangkok police had published a list of risky areas (where the dealers meet etc.). Unlikely you will go there. Some food to read: https://forum.thaivisa.com/topic/1049702-most-dangerous-areas-of-bangkok/ Old one from 2013: https://www.richardbarrow.com/2013/03/bangkoks-most-dangerous-areas-for-crime/ I once walked from Khao San road over Ratchadamnoen and further on in the evening. And the amount of homeless/shabby people, street hookers, curb crawlers was quite stunning to me. Edited February 5, 2020 by KhunBENQ
Popular Post Emdog
I'd say the "when" (3 pm very different from 3 am) more important than the "where" in Thailand and most cities in the world

Mac98
Always carry a thick glove and a leather pouch over your belt. When you feel threatened put on the glove, reach into your pouch and pull out one of six throwing stars. At that point do your best Bruce Lee immitation and scare them off. Works every time.

Popular Post SteveK
I wouldn't think twice about walking around Bangkok or Pattaya at 3am. Never had a problem, never felt in danger. Can't say the same about London, Liverpool or Bristol, though. Those places are dangerous after dark. 2

Pick pocketing on Baht bus/WS/Beach rd., "hug and grab" are most reported street crimes.
Enoon
I would consider myself most a risk in/around a night-time temple fair. Not expecting a targeted attack, but possibility of becoming collateral damage.

OneMoreFarang
It does not happen often but in principle I try to stay away from groups of (young) drunk Thais. They might even be friendly and joking. But unfortunately "our" sense of humor is often enough not compatible with their sense of humor. So after a while it's maybe not funny anymore...
