New bikes must meet euro 4 standards

Officials of Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) on Wednesday (February 5) met with representatives from more than 40 motorbike manufacturers, including major producers Honda and Yamaha, informing them of the requirements of the euro 4 certification for new bikes. The new policy, effective March 29, requires all new products to meet euro 4 standards.

To help tackle the PM 2.5 dust and pollution problem, euro 4 requires a 50 per cent reduction of carbon monoxide emissions, from the euro 3 standards currently in use.

All producer were told to follow the new policy or face penalties.

In the event of a violation, the manufacturer and importer will be jailed for a period of not exceeding two years, a fine not exceeding Bt2 million or both, while the distributor will be imprisoned for a maximum of 6 months or a fine not exceeding Bt500,000, or both.

ROFL meantime the same twenty ancient busses rolling down the road at 20km/h pumping out huge grey clouds from dual exhausts whilst idling and still huge PM2.5 from fires.

Not that I have noticed in Bangkok, they've all been changed to NGV.

All the major manufacturers have been Euro4 for ages and the 2020 bikes are moving to Euro5.

The government should focus on their own filthy polluting buses, not bikes which are relatively clean, fuel efficient, cut congestion and require less resource to manufacture.

No, there are a great many old busses being used to ferry factory workers and they're not run by government or apparently regulated or maintained in any way.

So what the will remove the mirrors and exhaust baffle the second they drive it off the lot. They love the noise and the mirrors are totally unnecessary. TIT

Coudn't have said it better. They need to clean up their own buses first. Then as a second step other commercial trucks, buses and pickups diesels. Oh and lets not forget the whole agregultural burning issue which not only pollutes the air but destroys their own soil killing untold thousands of people a year while at the same time destroying their own income. And then, maybe some time when the air is already pretty clean, then they can think about motorbikes. But until then, way more urgent problems are to be fixed. But nothing is being done.

New bikes must meet euro 4 standards

Unfortunately, the riders won't.

Wonder if anybody will bother to inform the "Police" or will there be a "crackdown" in about ten years time!

The standards will keep being raised until they cant be met....And then every one will be forced into electric bikes, which what they really wanted to begin with...

So then we will get triple the amount of electric cables on poles??

What!  Mirrors are essential on Bikes in Thailand.  How else are the girls going to check their make up and the boys check their zits?

PS;  Maybe that should be the other way round!

No, why would we? Most of these crazy cables on the poles aren't even power cables but communication. And if the existing power cables would not suffice then thicker ones would be installed.

Wake up!!!!  It’s not the bikes ???? brain dead vegetables

Followed closely by battery disposal pollution and more boot-licking to China who owns and controls the bulk of rare earth metals including lithium.

China is nothing if not far looking.

Surely there should an exemption so more seats could be added for pillion comfort.... !!!

Actually, doesn't EURO4 require ABS on all bikes? Does that mean all scooters will get ABS? That would be great!
