Former leader of Pheu Thai party, Yongyuth Vichaidit, was today sent to prison to serve his two-year sentence after the Supreme Court rejected his appeal to the high court.

Mr. Yongyuth was sentenced, by the Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases, for malfeasance in office over his role in the Alpine golf course scandal more than a decade ago.

The verdict was subsequently upheld by the Appeals Court on February 28th last year. The former Pheu Thai leader was appearing before the Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct to hear the reading of the Supreme Court’s decision, on his appeal to the high court against the two lower courts’ conviction.

Ridiculous that he was able to avoid justice for 10 years because he's connected.

You get 3 tries to avoid prison, and the time it takes, you

may pass away before going to prison.

That's nothing. The current government incumbents will avoid justice forever by declaring an amnesty for themselves and having even better connections.

Only justice in this country is rough justice and it is reserved for the poor and unconnected.

They already did that, writing it into the Constitution, granting full amnesty and pardon for anyone involved in the coup.

Not saying he didn't do it but they will knock off anyone with the wrong colour shirt.

Yongyuth Wichaidit

Former interior minister and Pheu Thai Party ex-leader Yongyuth Wichaidit, 78, who was accused of land corruption in a case involving the Alpine Golf Club, was taken to Bangkok Remand Prison to serve a two-year imprisonment sentence handed down by the Court of First Instance and the Court of Appeals on February 28, 2019.

Yongyuth arrived at the Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases today (February 17) for a hearing, but the Supreme Court rejected his petition that he had previously filed. Therefore, corrections officers took him to Bangkok Remand Prison to serve the two-year sentence.

The National Anti-Corruption Commission had accused Yongyuth of violating Section 157 of the Penal Code, which prohibits an official from wrongfully exercising or not exercising any of his or her duties to the injury of any person, or dishonestly exercising or omitting to exercise any of his/her functions.
