Police in Koh Phangan have announced the arrest of a foreign man in what they say is a bust of a big drug dealer on the holiday island in southern Thailand.

Arrested at a luxury house in Ban Tai, Koh Phangan on Saturday was 44 year old Gild Yohai, a British national with Israeli heritage, said Manager.

Found in a bedroom at his house were ecstasy, ketamine, cocaine, two types of ganja, scales and plastic bags for distributing the drugs. He admitted at the police station that it was all his.

He then asked to see an officer in charge and offered to pay one million dollars in a bribe.

When the police refused, he started to show signs of stress and began to make trouble, said Manager, going on about a Mr Big who would be informed.

Police had investigated the suspect after he appeared to be living a flamboyant lifestyle - but didn't appear to have a job.

Pol Lt-Col Thanawat Sukhata said this was no ordinary suspect in a drugs case. He was a big player.

He said that the suspect has six Russian girlfriends and two children. He is in the process of purchasing a 30 million baht house of which 2 million has so far been paid.

He drives around Koh Phangan in a kind of army jeep.

Manager described him as a mafia poser.

He has been charged with possession of drugs with intent to sell and is in the custody of the Koh Phangan police.

With the right connections he would have stayed out of trouble. Offering bribes after the arrest is too little, too late.

An un-kosher prison cell awaits. Farewell, amigo. :intheclub:

I'm guessing the million isn't currently available to stuff Into a brown envelope

Why not take the 1 million and then say, "Sorry, we don't accept bribes!!  Lock him up!!!"

I'm sure they will take everything from his house......plus have him politely tell them his bank account information.   He's definitely not cash poor.......

utter nonsense this is.

sure the guy was dealing, but the offer of a million bucks isn't realistic in any scenario.

No, it just means we lack information regarding both the offer and police response.

Crime in Thailand 101- Donate to the local police long before you’re arrested.

Absolute fiction. The local franchisees on samui and phangan have never turned away a contribution. They are some of the most corrupt police in the nation, and anyone who has spent time there, or lived there will attest to this. My guess is that they asked him to come up with a portion of that, and he could not even do that.

Reads like the guy sold a lot of gear, may have trod on local toes.

Weeeell, he's going to tread on a lot of toes in the cramped place he is going....????

If he was real mafia, they wouldn’t touch him

Wrong!!!

I doubt this story, even if the cop was actually honest there is no way he would refuse the bribe his supervisors would furious. His next position would be as a traffic cop or maybe an inactive post.

Offer a million bucks? Cops thinking "We'll take it anyway, if you've got it."

If he was in the drug selling business , should better have kept a low profile ... anyway , he will stay now in another 30 million baht house ,

( I guess building a prison will cost about this ...? ) , and not alone . Have a good time ...

If a criminal is arrested and this appeared in the news already , it is too late to bribe .

Well according to this he's been released on bail so he'll be long gone & the BIB will get the bail money, which won't be small, plus confiscating all his assets, so probably more than one million by the sound of it...
