You do not cancel the new year but cancel any and all gatherings. Meaning no silly water fights which are joined by thousands

A lot will be in Hanoi at the F1 with the teams supporting the season opener for the Thailand Super Series.

Its impossible to cancel the New Year that will go ahead regardless, unless they rewrite the calendar.

Cancel all "festivities" which include moronic water fights mainly in tourist areas, not so sure? There are 21 City Municipalities, 85 Town Municipalities and 1,024 Commune Municipalities, Thailand is a lot bigger than a few tourist areas, though a lot on here have no idea by how much! How would they cancel all gatherings, impossible to Police, though they might even catch a few drunk drivers and those without crash helmets at the same time if they do "cancel". ????

Go ahead with the Songkran festivities, but cancel the car show, and ask for self quarantine of people coming from higher risk countries. Way to go guys. A decision of such bone headed proportions, must have had the participation of Anutin.

If an infected person is throwing water at people, there is at least a chance of passing their virus on. What can one even say? Dumb and dumber? Anutin. A human representation of the bottom of the evolutionary barrel, and the worst possible pick for health minister.

New year in Thailand is on January 1st, the new year you have in mind is only fictional and not on a calendar, so as easy to cancel as any other gathering.

You might want to look into that a bit further as your comment is "fictional"
