I always thought that goin' out to eat was about enjoying yerself...not about good value.

I don't know about you, but I eat out almost every single meal living in Bangkok. Value is important.

For people complaining about the steaks, I don't know, I've always assumed them to not be that good, and have never had one at sizzler. It's usually chicken for me., which is good, as is the baked potato and the soup and salad bar.

havin' a serviced flat or similar with a kitchenette is worth payin' the extra money...ain't nothin' worse than havin' no control over your diet. I note this as a diebetic but the observation holds true for everyone that starts craving fresh fruit and veg after a 'coupla weeks livin' inna hotel...the salt, grease and stodge from prepared food soon catches up wid ye... :)

Before leaping to assumptions, UG. You might want to remember that I have lived in Thailand for 20 years. I have visited Sizzler more than once. Prior to this, the food was always ok. Pricey for the quality, tho. Having visited that restaurant for a few years, I saw the quality decreasing until I got served what was, essentially, an inedible burger.

That was more than enough lesson for me, thanks.

I guess you did not want to write all of that down, but if you write a post saying you went to Sizzler once, I am inclined to take your word for it.

QUOTE (sbk @ 2009-07-09 05:19:21) post_snapback.gifWent to the Sizzler in Bangkok once, had a burger so dry it made the Burger King burger seem pretty good. For the price, it was definitely not worth it.

This week I studied the steak dinner prices at Sizzler - over 600 baht; not worth it IMHO - although I enjoy filet mignon at the Duke's. The Sizzler combos are too much meat, and the weekly special that I tried once out of 22 visits at 3 locations, wasn't high quality.

You get unlimited salads and fruit, even desert. Drink. Small baked potato with butter, etc. Then a main entree. I thought the combo was too much meat, but maybe not.

I like the baked potato (sour cream and butter and bacon bits), and salad bar (the best thing there, I think), but the steaks.......well, can't eat them.

I tried one ground beef steak and that was enough for me........could not eat it (barf.....)

I tried the fried seafood........could eat it but really was not very good.

I tried a pork chop.......could eat that and not too bad.

Still, for the price you would think they could produce a really nice beef steak.

Summary: It is a good place for baked potato and salad.

As far as I'm concerned, fruits and salads aren't considered "food". They're just sidings. :)

Meat? Now that's food.

I like the salad bar, good selections. I specially like the quail eggs.

The entrees are hit and miss depending on location.

I can't believe that there are so many people out there with such poor taste for food. Had to laugh at the comment one poster made about Sizzler being a poor mans steakhouse. That is so true. I can't believe in a place like Thailand where there is absolutely so many real Restuarants offering fantastic food that one would opt for this crap.

Sizzler, NO THANKS, rather lick the Bangkok pavement :)

I enjoyed my Sizzler meel last time i was in there, but the price was higher then more other.Tell me about yuo lick?the pavement?you like the taste? An strange man indeed.

^^ ivank,

English is obviously NOT your first language. I don't actually LICK the pavement, I just dislike this type of food such as Sizzler SO MUCH that I pick out something really disgusting and nominate that I would rather do that.

Amazing thing to me is, that you actually used this thread to determine if someone was 'strange' or not. At the same time you post one of the strangest avatars Ive ever seen. Your exactly what this forum needs, another . :)

ivan...relax; if I wanted to be seriously disrespectful you would know it...

I suggest that you improve your English language skills and make an effort to appreciate western humor, especially as it applies to this forum...the members like to kid around a lot and by mentioning your dubious Pattaya 'known man' credentials you will now be a target for further jibes....if your threats of violence don't get you banned from the forum before.

lighten up, my friend, life is too short, etc., etc...

(and good luck with your visa problems...)

Surely the bacon 'bits' are fake, probably soy bits. The bread is what we call "Texas toast" back in Texas. :) I always get either the mushroom or tuna soup, and one round of the salad bar (usually the corn and peanuts mix, maybe a slice of tang mo) while we wait for the main course. Even though I'm stuffed after that, I get one or two little servings of chocolate pudding. My partner is Thai and gives me the extra toast, but I sometimes don't eat a second piece. Compared to the toast in Texas, it has a bit too much butter and isn't as toasted.

The salad bar in Chiang Mai and Hua Hin has a good selection, almost equalling what I'd find back home.

My annual membership expires in a few weeks; I hope I can get another. As a member, if you buy one main entree and your guest gets one, the less expensive entree is free. Typically we get out of there paying only 350 baht for two people stuffed to the gills and full of Pepsi refills. If you're alone, the membership card gives you a discount of 10% for cash, 5% for credit card purchase.

Ive never,,, seen a thai eat the bread !

Mate, Every time we go there and it's not that often now, my wife orders her own 'fried' bread and eats the stuff that is delivered with my steak. She loves the stuff!

Sizzler and Pizza Company -- as was mentioned earlier -- are part of the Heinecke / Minor Group empire and as such their target customers are not Farang but Thai citizens who don't know the difference... just as Pizza Hut (the Pizza Company predecessor) was started in Wichita, Kansas USA for persons who had never seen a REAL pizza.

Be careful or Ivank the Enforcer may get a job with Bill H. silencing critics...

But what was the verdict? Real or fake? You didn't make that clear. I don't mind sizzler I do wonder why they give you that thick slice of bread to go with your dinner. Maybe that is what is filling you up? :)

Surely, they are 100% textured soy protein.

I am not a Sizzler fan. The steaks are pretty bad, and the food not that good despite the somewhat high prices.

Sizzler in the US is sort of like a pricey Denny's, but at least it is edible and worth the price.

I would tend to agree. My wife and I go to Sizzler sometimes for lunch when we are in BKK. Each and every time, we get the salad/soup bar. Seems the best deal, and if you go light on the dressing... 1. you wont get full so fast, and 2. its certainly healthier.

I am not a big steak-eater (other than tri-tip), so I tried a fish plate there once -- it was so-so... bland and too expensive for the value. I had to add whatever condiments I could find on the table or elsewhere (salt, pepper - I vaguely remember asking for Tabasco sauce as well) just to give it some spark.

Hi,

First, I feel if a person enjoys the food at any restaurant- they should go definitely back again for more when the mood strikes. What's more, I figure... the reverse is true: No good? No return. A fellow American friend, here in Pattaya, who's not at all an adventurous eater, suggested we all go to Sizzler late one afternoon, so we went; this was about 3 years ago. Yuk... and my Thai girlfriend, and my friend's Thai girlfriend said Yuk, too. My buddy was happy enough, though, (I think this guy gained weight when he was in the army, hah!) and munched-out for about an hour (excrutiating!)

Only went to Sizzler the one time but that was enough for me. And, we won't eat there again. I'd eaten at Sizzler in the states a few times; steak was ok, not bad. Cheap enough, too. But, here in Thailand... I agree- all you should order is the salad bar. And, even that's been funked up by the Thai approach. I'll just make up my own salad bar at home.

Anyway, I figure if you go into Sizzler with no or low expectations... and only order the salad bar... you'll probably come out feeling alright for the experience. As for me, well, with all the other choices here in the Pattaya area, I really doubt that we will ever go back to Sizzler; no good reason to do that. But, that's just me, and that's just my taste. Good luck...

:)
