Virt
I know a regular mask is doing nothing for a normal healthy person, other than it is a very small barrier for catching droplets if someone sick sneezes in your direction, but seeing us falangs beeing pointed out like this, I wonder if it's safer just to wear a mask when I'm in Bangkok next week to avoid getting into any discussions with the locals who takes his words for facts. Or can the normal Thai see through this smokescreen of fake news out there?

So, what is he going to do about "Phuak Nee" ? Anyone who accepts such an insult and stays in Thailand deserves what is coming soon. I'm finally thinking about leaving...strongly considering what to do about my businesses that are based in Myanmar and Laos. Since Thailand is located in between and there is no direct border crossing open between the two countries yet, might be difficult to move equipment and supplies without crossing Thai territory. Any air travel would have to go through Thailand (or detour via Vietnam). Fortunately, I haven't expanded back into Thailand yet (as I had been considering, given covid-19's travel restrictions) but this guy's second racist rant in as many weeks makes my decision easier. Granted, it may not be easy to just 'jump ship' overnight. But believe me, I'm carefully considering my options and may be out of here in the next year or two along with my family. Certainly an undertone of racism, the world's most polluted air, overcrowding, poorly laid out cities with inadequate road space [like Bangkok] and terrible traffic, rip-off prices for everything from cars to any quality product or anything imported (other than from China, India, Vietnam or Eastern Europe), lack of variety, a capital city that is sinking and could be underwater in a few decades from now...doesn't make it too hard to see why Thailand is past it's prime. If there ever was a prime...to be honest, there probably never really was, just that in the past it was a nice place for some hedonism and 'freedom' but those days are fast coming to an end as Thailand starts to become a bit of a nanny state like the countries we escaped from. Although we expats often [rightfully] complain about Thailand's terrible road toll, my observation has been there is a gradual trend towards police state enforcement...I'm seeing people getting fines for going a few km/h over the speed limit on some roads, something which doesn't even happen back home, where the leeway is much larger. Common sense is used in the west - police generally tend to allow a 10-20km/h buffer (sometimes higher) on expressways, especially if everyone else drives at that speed. In Thailand, the low IQ 'solution' is applied whereby they fine the guy doing 7km/h above the speed limit on motorway 7 (like I was a couple of years ago) but not the idiot doing a far more dangerous 60km/h in a 120km/h zone, hogging the right lane! Of course, let's not even get into the lack of enforcement of vehicles (especially scooters) riding against the flow of traffic and other dangerous behaviors. All that Thailand really has going for it at this point, is a nice warm climate that's mostly sunny year-round. That's about the only thing I'm jealous of - that and some nice landscapes in parts of the north and south, but Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam and other countries offer the same (or should i say, much more). Myanmar offers endless mountains in much of the country (though it's not a great place to live...dangerous militia groups and even more racist Chinese building up cities right on the Thai border - 'Shwe Kokko' has signs prohibiting foreigners (meaning farang and anyone who isn't Chinese from entering...will we soon be seeing these in Thailand?) Anutin has set a precedent, so I wouldn't be surprised. I think SE Asia overall is not heading in the right direction, so 'escaping' to Vietnam or Cambodia only delays the inevitable - despite everything, America is still perhaps the greatest country in the world...at least they know the meaning of free speech. However, many European countries are still nice and of course so are Australia and New Zealand. Edited March 13, 2020 by drbeach 6

Just goes to show that his first little tantrum was not a one-off. Western countries only have a problem with Covid because they are actually testing for it and reporting the figures honestly. Look at the airport, more than half doesn't wear a mouthmask... Why he has to make such ridiculous remarks? Could you imagine a minister in a normal developed nation stating that all the Asians are the reason for the spread of this and should be avoided at all costs. It is almost Hitler esque. I would find it very hard to believe that a Minister of any country could come out with such ignorant madness - very surprised But ................. onlycw
Seriously? Let's assume, the model Thai citizen gets exposed to the virus, which stays airborne for "30 minutes". Then he goes home and takes off the mask. Touching the outside of the mask, his face and not washing his face and his hands. Unless it's a N95 mask, it's a waste of time, anyhow.
