Pattaya: Keep the beer bars open! We are open air and less risky, says desperate bar rep

A representative of the beer bars in Pattaya has said that they should be treated differently to pubs, clubs and discos and allowed to remain open.

 

The comments from Saifon Khananyiam who represents dozens of bars in the red light area of Soi 6 came as the government was about to discuss proposals to shut down the entertainment industry in places like Pattaya. 

 

Saifon, 40, thinks that because the beer bars are open air they must represent less risk for transmission of the virus than closed in places like clubs and discos.

 

In addition, she is extremely worried about what will happen to staff and for the future of the beer bars. 

 

She was interviewed by Thai media 77kaoded who said that they went to Soi 6 off Sai 2 to an area where there are 50 beer bars. 

 

She said that there were a large number of staff affected. Beer bar employees are not like company or factory workers who have an official support network to fall back on. They won't receive handouts - they will get nothing.

Many have already headed back to the provinces because there are so few customers, so few tourists. 

 

Closing the beer bars will cause a further mass exodus of bar staff and bar girls to the countryside. 

 

Saifon said that her association had no Plan B and needed help from the government.

 

She feared for the future of her association of members who are faced with having no business at all at "high season" next month. 

 

In this she appeared to be referring to Songkran that has been virtually called off in Thailand in response to the coronavirus crisis, notes Thaivisa. 

 

Thaivisa stresses that the proposal to shut down the entertainment industry is as yet just that, a proposal.

And, very important, NO prostitutes.

Beer bars are if anything more dangerous than regular bars due to the tactile nature of the girls working in them..........and the often just as tactile nature of the client!

Close all bars, girls can go home. Disinfect Soi 6, Walking St etc.

If its all about isolation of sorts its madness to let them all go back to their Villages there will definitely be a spike in cases and unfortunately the Older family members back home will suffer I would say the entertainment staff already contracted the virus and recovered a kind of 'herd immunity' if you will and then it died down.My thoughts anyhow!

Exactly, so she needs to keep crying because money is all she knows herself.  It is not about staff, its about greed over health.  Open air bar. tables and floor coughed on, spittle still transmitted through the air from a cough, <deleted> is she thinking, oh she is not....

I agree , i know , they are bleeding cash fast , nobody thinks otherwise . Its a very hard time , but keep people separate at all cost , if every human would do it , this thing would be gone in 2 max 3 weeks ( incubation time ) . I know it isnt possible , but lets make the time we are in it as short as possible , and this means avoid contact , bars and restaurants closed . Nobody in the world want this , but its here , react to it , and bar closing is 1 of the big contributors of human contact , and that is the 1 we want to avoid right now .

 

Everybody wants to get back to normal life , but this isnt happening right now , so lets make sure we get there as fast as possible . The virus does not make a difference in skincolor , religion , or anything else .

Pattaya will be a future vacation spot for families like Prayut has long promised

 

 

I hsve some empathy, it's gonna be tough for everyone. At the end of the day eating animals that aren't meant to be be eaten is probably a bad idea.

Yes, keep the beer bars open so all the bar girls who have multiple foreign sex partners per day can contract the virus and pass it on to still more witless sex mongers. Witless sex mongers will be the new Thailand Corona 19 virus cases. Let the games begin. They can then take home the virus to their countries and really show the world just how ethical and smart they really are!

 

You won't catch me in a beer bar, open air doesn't make any difference, it's close contact, touching the same things.. chairs, bar surfaces, bathroom faucets, toilet handles, door handles...  The ignorance is mind boggling... yea keep the beer bars open.. the alcohol in the whiskey will protect me from getting Covid 19. LOL!!!

Last time I was in Pattaya it wss quite pleasant. Maybe they'll rediscover the stuff that draw us there, before the hordes arrived.

I won't touch any prostitutes at all in Pattaya now. How many foreign partners from China, Korea, Italy and other countries have these girls banged in the last month? How many bar girls are smart enough to seek proper medical care if they get symptoms of Covid 19? It is taking a big chance with your health banging a Pattaya prostitute at this stage of the game. i don't dare do it .... to risky. they have no idea of self quarantine, no idea on how it travels from person to person. Imagine sitting 6 feet away from a bar girl you are buying drinks for.

If the government is going to close these businesses then they should also ensure that the landlords are not allowed to charge rent while the bar is closed.

 

The problem iwth closing the restaurants or any venue is that they all pay rent of some sort as well as other bills.  The best thing the governement can do to help them is to say that if a business is forced to close due to the virus that the land lord must forgive rent until after the governement allows the businesses to reopen.

Reality of the current situation is the game is up ( 'scuse the pun ) for a lot of Patt's entertainment workforce for the time being .. There's nowt left but head back to the provinces until this blows over and see what's left after .. 

And the bar girls used to boast how many thousands of baht they made every week from the stupid tourists !  Its all over now !  Go home and look after your family. I know many are from a very poor family and need the bar money but millions of people are going to lose jobs and be poor, and they have HP and mortgages too.

And with all the above risky nationalities all over Pattaya in the last few months in buses   taxis, hotels, restaurants... There doesn't seem to be any cases in Pattaya?
