China showing regret?

China named Li Wenliang — the doctor who sounded the alarm about the coronavirus that later killed him  — a "martyr" following a campaign to silence him by police in Wuhan.

Li was among 12 dead medics given the official honor by the Chinese Communist Party on Thursday, according to state media outlet CCTV.  "Martyr" is the highest honor the Communist Party can bestow on a citizen killed working to serve China, according to the state-run Global Times tabloid.

The National Supervisory Commission (NSC), ruled that Li's punishment was "irregular" and "improper."  The NSC said the police must be held responsible and that Li's punishment should be rescinded, according to Reuters.

At 10 a.m. local time on Saturday, 4th April, the whole of China will observe a three-minute silence to honor all martyrs who died fighting the coronavirus, Xinhua reported.

Window dressing. It would be more convincing if they shot the officials who tried to cover coronavirus up, all the way to Xi.

Yes, well whatever narrative promotes the CCP as being the legitimate voice of the Chinese people will be broadcast, given the lack of means for the latter to express their true thoughts. To a large degree the Party has been successful in its manipulation of media. However, stronger and more absolute regimes have eventually fallen, and will do so again, given time.

Showing regret? Think not. They only show any sort of acknowledgement because this thing 'got out'. Honour the secret dead.

They may have done it but no reason to noise it
