PHUKET: Patong has been “shut down” by order of the Phuket Governor, with all non-essential travel in or out of the tourism town denied in the hope of preventing a major outbreak of the COVID-19 coronavirus on the island.

Phuket Governor issued the order earlier today, with public agencies posting the official notices at about 11pm tonight (Apr 4).

The order came into effect at midnight (00:01am, Apr 5).

Given that Patong seems to be the epicentre in Phuket, then yes, a wise move to try and stop the spread island wide.

Where did the ladyboys go?

They heard the governor was stopping anything from spreading wider, so they legged it!

My condo is just a couple hundred meters outside the checkpoint at Simon Cabaret heading to Karon. Is it possible to drive to Big C at Jungceylon (5 minutes away) or must I head the other direction to Karon/Kata/Chalong to get to a grocery store? Also, can Grab or Food Panda deliver outside the checkpoint?

I have no idea why the checkpoint is not a bit further down - closer to the Le Meridien.
