jimrod
If we are to believe the Thai figures, they seem to be doing something right. So much so, I'm more than happy to comply with whatever I'm told. I don't drink alcohol but I'm not a campaigner against it. If I was a drinker, I'd just accept the rule like every other one enforced by this nasty virus. I can't actually help the drinkers as I'm a tea and water man only. As a non-drinker the drinking habits of the community don't affect me too much, other than a slight improvement due to fewer drunks around and better drivers. The average forum IQ may improve too as fewer members post drunk. Congratulations. However do bear in mind that your non-drinking is as likely to make to you a crashing bore as the life and soul of the party. It depends on the underlying personality. 1

No doubt, to be "exciting" at a party you need to be drunk, however, conversely, people who get drunk are often the most boring of people when they are sober. Take these same people to a party where only soft drinks are served up and see just exciting these fools really are. Congratulations are not necessary, I'm not a recovering alcoholic. I just don't drink alcohol other than some wine on occasions. People ask the wrong questions. The question should be: "why do you drink?", not "why don't you drink?". It's illogical to ask why I don't consume chemicals that can cause harm and are not necessary for the human body to function. I can give a lot of reasons why I don't, but reasons why you do might be hard to come by.

The average Forum member will have stocked up, so shouldn't have any problem posting under the influence.

Apparently there is a ban on drinking outdoors... was sitting beside the pool earlier enjoying a frosty one when a drone flew over head.... Not sure what that was about but I now ensure my bottle hides under the umbrella.

Pattaya they are saying 20 days, oh my! Buddha have mercy! LOL

kevinsan
First they ban the otc ketamine in the pharmacies and now this. The end is nigh! If you want to stop socializing, shut down the gas stations, banks and atms. Within a week the people will stay at home. Tried, tested and effective. TaaSaparot
Well, when they closed the bars, I thought thats it, but no, a couple of beer bars in my neighbourhood remained open for 4 hours a days (with an occasional visit) And I thought the same again now we have an alcohol sale ban, ..... and they still remain open for 4 hours a day. It's some place Pattaya!

This has been my way for decades, and it has served me well. I don’t drink daytime, know how to control my nightly drinking, prefer drinking alone, never get violent, can fall asleep quickly. Alcohol is a valuable medicine for me. So I have been stocking up for a week, now have enough to last until May 1. Sure hope that will be the end of the booze ban. 8 hours ago, tropo said: 2

Not a surprise since it used to be a party town. Now that the really dry season is here, many might notice there aren't that many hobbies available to do sober. And I do agree with you, "socializing", if necessary, with most people is something best done under influence. Not many genuinely interesting people around here.

Instead of all the miserable alcoholics on here crying about the ban on alcohol sales, they could donate their massive alcohol budgets to buy care packages for the many Thai people in Pattaya who don't have food and are still waiting for help from the government. Now wouldn't that be nice - turning a negative situation into a positive one.

This is about an alcohol ban mainly aimed at young fools - to stop them from partying. The old fools are probably stocked up and enjoying themselves at home. No, I haven't bought any care packages yet, but the suggestion was to use money that you normally spend on alcohol. Did you miss that? I don't have an alcohol budget. Anyways, I'm struggling to help my wife's family in the Philippines at the moment. Wasting money that I can buy food with on alcohol would be a crime. You try to paint everyone that has a drink a menace to society and a raging alcoholic which is completely unfair and untrue. You obviously have you reasons for being so against alcohol and that's none of my business, just like people having a drink is none of your business.
vogie
I found this on the khaosod website, it states that the alcohol ban is to the 30th of this month, but it also states that alcohol can be bought within the hours stated. Does the team think that is a mistake or have we been thrown a lifeline. "Chonburi (sales allowed during 11am to 2pm and 5pm to 6pm)," Edited April 13, 2020 by vogie
