A policeman in Chachoengsao province was arrested for allegedly attempting to rob a branch of Kasikornbank on Thursday (April 16).

Police were called to the bank after witnesses noticed a man was wearing several layers of clothing and suspected he was concealing a gun beneath them.

Officers from Bang Pakong Police Station arrived at the scene and arrested the suspect. He was carrying a Glock 19 pistol together with two magazines.

The police revealed the man was, in fact, a police officer who worked in the Special Branch Bureau.

He was charged with breaking the firearms law and faces further investigation as to his motive for being at the bank.

The Royal Thai Police said he would face severe consequences for his action.

That mask ain't foolin' no one! Cops arrest suspected robber as the contents of brown envelope prove revealing

news_mQLKhXiJSe110245_533.jpg

Observant police in the Bang Bua area suspected that a man loitering in front of the Kasikorn bank looked suspicious.

There was something about the mask that was out of step with the usual Covid-19 apparel.

It was very black and very long.

This guy looked up to no good.

So the Bang Bua force confronted the man to see what his reason might be for hanging around the bank.

On his person they found a brown envelope.

Not surprisingly, this piqued their interest.

Inside was a gun and ammunition.

The constabulary are working on the assumption that the man - aged about 35 - 40 - was about to rob the bank.

Investigations continued at the station.

A serving police sergeant was arrested on Thursday (April 16) in Chachoengsao province for allegedly conspiring to rob, Pol General Krisana Pattanacharoen, deputy spokesman of the Royal Thai Police, said on Thursday.

Officers from Bangpakong Police Station arrested the suspicious-looking man with a firearm in front of Kasikornbank's Bangwua branch in Bangpakong district.

“The suspect was seen wearing a black cloth mask, black clothes, carrying a backpack standing in front of the bank’s ATMs,” he said. “When patrolling police officers questioned him, he said he was an undercover police officer from Special Branch Bureau and tried to flee. Officers therefore arrested him and found a Glock 19 hand gun in his jacket along with secondary magazine and 40 bullets.”

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is Pol Sergeant Pannathep (last name withheld), aged 33, who worked as unit commander of Police Clearance Service Centre at Special Branch Bureau, Royal Thai Police.

“He confessed to a conspiracy to rob, saying he had Bt400,000 in debt and his wife was out of work,” said Krisana. “The sergeant will be charged with carrying firearms in a public place, while officers will further investigate the origin of the firearm and ammunition to see if there are other offences involved.”

“The Special Brach Bureau will later appoint a committee to consider disciplinary punishment against the sergeant,” he added.

Another good reason to ensure you pay your police force a decent salary. In these times of woe, a nation should be able to depend on the police, not expect then to go out robbing banks <deleted>! The fact they have access to guns, authority over the public, possible knowledge of how these banks work and would probably be the last suspecteed if he was never caught, just goes to show how opportunistic the thai police actually are. Now let's see if the punishment will fit the crime........ NOT!!!

Great, let us form another committee, have a few socials, then, when it is all quiet we will ascertain that it was a misunderstanding, and that he was, in fact, practicing to be an undercover agent.
