PHUKET: Four former Phuket taxi drivers now out of work due to the COVID-19 crisis have turned to catching crabs to make a living.

One of the four, Thanathorn Thepkaew, 38, originally from Trang, found himself out of work two months ago when the tourists stopped flying in.

Where he used to earn about B20,000 a month, enough to support himself, his wife and child, Thanathorn found himself without any income, but still with rent, motorcycle payments and car payments to pay, and needing to send money back home to Trang.

Personally I think the can all go pound rocks, and get an attitude adjustment while they are at it.  I recall they were all so rude and aggressive right before the coup, then after that they slunk back in the gutter for a while.  Nice to see they will have plenty of time to think about their attitudes and consider career changes.

maybe they will learn to charge a reasonable price to tourists in future if they ever return to their taxi job.

probably not, the rate will probably go up. ????

Well it probably wouldn't be 'Phuket taxi drivers start catching crabs to make a loving'.

They can go down the social and claim for nippers

Sympathy for the wife and child if they're going hungry but no sympathy for greedy taxi drivers in Phuket. He should have saved for the "rainy day" that is now. Sell the vehicles to highest bidder and introduce Grab or insist on Meter Taxis in Phuket. No more 200 Baht minimum fare. Time to open the market up there and stop ripping of locals and visitors.

Ahh the good old days ...

PHUKET

"Swedish tourist beaten up by Patong tuk tuk driver and friends"

The Crabs in Phuket are “very fast” you know I’ve seen them running on the beach.

When i see the title, i make a mistake,

i read GRAB instead of CRAB...

taxi...grab... why not ?
