Is it just me or can users not create threads in the world news forum? 

This is correct functionality.

 

Well, ok, but it seems a bit weird to lock users out of an area as important as 'World News' so they can not create things to talk about.

The News Forums are designed so that the News Team can post news topics and other members can reply to those topics.

If you feel a subject is newsworthy by all means create a thread in General with all the links etc. that a News thread would contain then hit Report to bring it to the attention of the online crew.

 

So the forum administrators create the subjects of discussion, not the users, in the world news forum, and nobody thinks that's a bit off?
