If your lucky, on the 1st of June.

or 1st July

whatever reasons they have to applying the ban for May should mean it's banned June too, and possibly onwards. covid can't be the reason anymore if the figures are true.

May will be an expensive month - there's plenty of supply in my area now but at higher prices and only by the box, so i'll end up drinking them from breakfast instead of lunch

It is always claimed on this forum that Thais don't have any common sense, though anyone with a grain of common sense would know that if the ban was to be extended there would be no 2 day window to stock up.

Yet this thread was overflown by foreigners who believed the clickbait in the OP.

Tell me now who is lacking common sense

My first job ever was working in a brewery in Wales, my second job ever was working in a stocktakers where we went and counted all the stock, bottles, barrels etc in a pub or club. As an extra job in the evenings I used to serve in a pub, many pubs as it happened over the years. It is where I discovered the delights of a scotch egg and a gin and dubonnet nightcap.

I have an affinity with alcohol, I also understand how one can become addicted. I am not.

I realised at an early age that drinking spirits was not good, so I resolutely stayed away from them and only allowed myself beer and wine.

This ban is completely pathetic.

I wonder how many expats and other long stayers  would leave Thailand, never to return, if it went permanently dry, no alcohol of any kind? It wouldn't particularly worry me, but I bet it would devastate many people.  It would surely totally destroy the tourist industry.

The reasoning behind my thought is that the government has mentioned opening up Thailand to tourists again next month, now who in their right mind would want to come to a country where there is a ban on booze.

But alcohol was behind 40% of hospital A&E cases. The ban had reduced this to 15%. This has freed up beds and medical staff for the Coronavirus fight. That's why the ban will continue for a long time.

With the Thai death figures for April 2020 running 3 times the previous year average it doesn't take rocket science to guess where these extra deaths are coming from.

Even if the government tries to sweep it under the rug and fudges the figures the rest of us should be aware that the Alcohol ban and restrictions will be here for the long term. Until the hospitals can cope the ban will remain. It has little or nothing to do with reducing socialisation but that's what the Thai government would have you believe.

Get used to living in an alcohol free Thailand.

yes, but that's the point, in a ban you can't do that and a total ban means that you never will again. .

How many people will rush to the pubs, bars and restaurants when the ban is finally lifted?

I for one certainly wouldn't, even if I drank beer. I was watching BBC News yesterday and pubs in the UK were pouring draught beer down the drains. It was already going off. I wonder if all restaurants and pubs here will clean out their stock or will they sell it to the public?

Well I went to 3 "mom and pop" little stores, and none of them would sell it to me, even though I asked in fluent Thai and had bought beer from one of them on a holiday more than once in the past.  If they decide to sell booze tomorrow and Saturday, I do not look forward to the lines and people crowded together.

Draught beer goes off once when the keg has been started. In Thailand they use bottled beer, which will keep much longer.

Yes, I was avoiding that very obvious truth, when one watches the antics, not to mention the blatant hypocrisy of many of them on holiday here.

Most of the smaller beer bars only have bottles but plenty of the bigger pubs have draught beer in kegs so no doubt there will be a lot of waste.
