PHUKET: A local resident in Cherng Talay suffering from the COVID-19 lockdown restrictions tried to return a B1,000 banknote tucked into a food-relief parcel in a true act of honesty, only to find out that the money was placed inside the parcel intentionally.

The parcel was one of thousands handed out by a small campaign aimed at helping local people left without income by the COVID crisis.

The campaign is privately sponsored by Aiyarin and Jakob Pedersen, “with the support of Tony, Sophie, Panida, Henrik, plus Chernglay Kitchen, Supalai, Andaman Island Group and Ask Ava,” Mr Pedersen told Khao Phuket.

Wow, this guy may be poor, but he is a real gentleman!  Well done and thank you to those supplying the food and the generous gift. God bless you all ????

perfect fit for TAT next good will claim, replacing the "good" taxi drivers returning bags with cash

From the full story, the organisers said “We were shocked by the honesty, especially in these hard times,"

Nice to hear that even in a dire situation an honest man remains so.

Fair play to the organisers for their generosity too.

A nice welcome bit of news when so much of  late is the opposite.

last night i saw a family debating what to buy at the local market. they checked their money.  lady (mom, probably), daughter and young son.  i spoke some thai to the mom.  she said ok.

i put 100 baht in my hand and had the kid pick a hand.  he choose wrong, so i had him pick again.  1000 baht?  ah, ok, well, i could but i guess my heart isn't that big.

in times like this, we ALL can help every single day.  usually i only give 20 baht away.  it makes everyone feel good.

try it.

By Asian customs (and I guess in other parts of the world too,) gifts sometime contain cash. Actually quite often it's just cash, easier on the part of the donor. So if I got some money bill inside my gift pack, I would assume that the donor wanted me to have some cash to spend, along with enjoying whatever else inside the package. Call me greedy if you want, but my family would call me nuts if I were to return it.

Anutin, did you hear that? Not all farangs are nasty people.  To those who sponsored this event, thanks for doing it!
