A family in Ubon Ratchathani that “selfishly” emptied a shared pantry sparked a fiery conversation on the Internet about the real purpose of the food storage meant for needy families

Pictures of a father and three sons taking all of the pantry’s food and water near the Ubon museum were widely shared on the Internet on Sunday.

Netizens have been divided.

Half believed the pantry was made to share food so anyone could take anything from it, while people who stocked the storage should not have any regrets over the incident.

However, the other half felt that even though items in the pantry were free, the family should have had the common sense to know that during this hardship several other families also need supplies and what they did reflected only selfishness on their part.

Thais selfish? no ! farangs no underestnad me First.

Despiration often brings out the worst in some people. Greed, lurking under the guise of need, is often a companion of the former.

certainly looks like the family needed it, and there doesn't seem to be that much food if he can carry it on his motorcycle.

instead of internet outrage and criticism why dont the citizens who have organise themselves to provide for and help those who have not? as happens in my home and i'm sure many other countries.

Greed is when you don't need, but want.

That's why billionaires who want more can be described as greedy. Same as these low lives who didn't need all the stuff, they just wanted it because it was free

Thai culture, take today tomorrows another day.

Yes and there is the major issue here, many think tomorrow doesn't mater only today, it would be difficult I'm sure to only take a bit without thinking some person with less need  will come and get what i cant carry, desperate times but i hope a lesson is being learnt by many, put 10 baht of todays to help with tomorows

I was a digger in the 60's, it was great, people would bring something and take something. commercial stores didn't like the idea at all. took a lot of <deleted>, but it lasted for a long time in the east village of Manhattan. once something leaves your hands it is no longer yours and you have no control over it. that's a fact, like John Crapper invented the toilet.
