Netizens praised the work of a team of ER doctors at Krabi hospital in southern Thailand after a perch (pla mor) was removed from the throat of a fisherman from Myanmar.

The man had caught the fish and placed it in his mouth temporarily but it wriggled loose and the barbs got embedded in the wall of his throat. In a desperate attempt to remove it he only managed to pull off part of the tail - 10 cms were left inside.

Doctors used surgical instruments to get the fish out in an operation on Friday that was recorded on the Facebook page of Wanida Paluepech.

Wanida mentioned the proverb "pla mor tai phroh paak" (ปลาหมอตายเพราะปาก) that equates to people that babble or talk excessively harm themselves (careless talk costs lives).

It relates to the habit of the fish to go for air at the surface of the water thus endangering itself, notes Thaivisa's cultural affairs attache.

Why was the team praised when they were just doing their job?  Are people not aware that a doctor does his/her work just the same as anybody doing theirs.  It is rather like applying the word "hero" to just ordinary events that people perform.  My father along with many other young males were underage in the CEF during WWI.  Does that make them "heroes?"  Just curious.
