A drought in Phitsanulok province is destroying more than 1,000 rai of rice fields in Phrom Phiram district.

But the installation of a new water pump has revived hopes the crop can be salvaged.

The Provincial Administration Organisation (PAO) sent officials to follow up on the installation of a water pump to divert water to the rice fields.

However, the size of the water pump was not big enough to irrigate all the 1,000 rai.

The PAO ordered the officers to install a 10-inch water pump, bigger than the current eight-inch one, to divert water from Yom River to Saeng Canal from where farmers can use for agricultural purposes.

The water has now reached the rice fields and there are hopes the drying rice shoots can be revived.
