Caught a rat in the cage trap in the garage last night.

I don't think I've seen one with such a long before. Body about 4 or 5 inches long and tail about twice as long.

Released a long way away this morning.

You are nice.

Are you member of PETA?

I would have smashed it with a baseball bat.

Graphic, but true. They breed like.....erm, rats.   They are vermin like fleas and cockroaches. When caught, they go diving in a bucket of water. Snakes are different, some eat rats.

Released it ? Well, done, it will show you it's appreciation later by bringing back 200 of it's offspring

Usually they don't get past the dogs. So if it comes back with a few mates the dogs will fix things. ????

We were out last night and the dogs were shut in the front garden, probably why it made it to the garage and the trap.

This thread brings back memories - when I first came to Thailand I rented a house - omg the wildlife there was beyond insane! The house had these suspended ceiling tiles and at night I could hear god knows what crawling around up there at night. I used to set traps out and then drown the rats in buckets of water. Horrible. Then there were mossies, cockroaches, snakes etc. That was a big part of why I decided to buy a condo. Every westerner who lives in a house in Thailand has my undying respect and admiration!

We have regular visits from golden tree snakes, brown rat snakes and the odd python now and then. They don't come in the house, just visit the garden. This longtail rat is the first rat I've seen in a long time. We don't kill anything, unfortunately I can't say the same for the dogs. They won't go near snakes ( they kill anything else ) but wiil let me know if one is in the garage.

One of the reasons we don't see many rats is because of the snakes.
