eSIM or SIM for Laptop

Featured Replies

I am about to receive a new laptop that is eSIM compatible. AIS say their eSIM is only for tablet and phones. Is this true? Anyone with eSIM experience in Thailand?

Barring eSIM, I could always pop in a standard SIM card in there. Since I've never done it, is it possible to tie it to my current phone data plan or do I need a completely different plan?

Thank you in advance for your input.

I would suggest setting up a hotspot on your mobile phone and linking your laptop to the hotspot. That way you can get unlimited data on 1 sim.

eSIM is a embedded SIM, a fixed hardware chip that's programmable to emulate the similar functions of a wireless provider's Mini, Micro, or Nano Subscriber Identity Module without requiring the physical SIM card.

Does the laptop you're getting even allow use with normal SIM cards?

As tiocfaidh wrote, you might be better off connecting the laptop to a WiFi hotspot created by your smartphone or separate 4G/LTE Wireless WiFi device so more of your connected devices can take advantage of shared Internet access.
