PHUKET:-- The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has issued two distinct notices to all airlines reminding them of their obligations to passengers affected by cancelled or rescheduled flights, including the conditions for refunding airfares, and to provide food and drinks, and access to free communications services for flights delayed for hours.

A first notice issued on Friday (June 19) reminded all air service operators of the “Announcement of the Ministry of Transport on Protection of Passenger Rights Using Thai air carriers’ Services for Domestic Scheduled Air Aervices 2010 (B.E. 2553)”, issued 10 years ago by Sopol Saram, the Minister of Transport at the time.

A notice issued late this afternoon (June 22) specifically singled out all charter flight operators.

Seems like the exception for delays due to "force majeure" makes the announcement pretty toothless in the current environment.

unless it is fully insured by the government it is not worth the paper it's written on.

and what about international flights and bookings especially those involving foreign tourists - just shaft them right - as they don't matter

And pretty toothless in the case of THAI in particular in their current environment dominated by bankruptcy proceedings.

Yep, that´s right. They have to remind them to not take advantage of the situation. Is that because it is latent in their nature to do so, one must wonder?

Anyway, it´s a quite good picture if you just concentrate in the middle right section of it.

As many of them seem to forget their obligations to the paying public !!!!!

I am still waiting on refunds/credit from Air Asia and Nok Air for cancelled flights from March/April. Both refuse to answer emails.

But you must remember what they have all said: "we are in this together".

flights I pre booked and paid for with thai smile before corona hit were re scheduled so that they are no longer any use as they would not arrive in Bangkok or leave  Bangkok allowing the connecting flights to be caught, when I asked for a refund they would only allow the person named on the tickets to get a credit. I poibnted out that as I had paid for the tickets and that my daughter and grandson from Australia would not be in Thailand now for several years  so I wanted the credit or refund in my name but they refused to answer me, I will no tell them I want a full refund for all the tickets and see what happens, they appear to do anything to avoid having to give you back your money. I am also waiting for a refund from Singapore air for return airfares, they told me over a month ago they are doing it in order of the flights, mine were supposed to be last week but were cancelled so it looks like a long wait all round
