(Reuters) - Iran will send the black boxes from a downed Ukrainian airliner to France for analysis, the countries said on Monday.

Iran shot down the Ukraine International Airlines flight on Jan. 8 with a ground-to-air missile, killing 176 people, in what Tehran later acknowledged as a "disastrous mistake" by forces on high alert during a confrontation with the United States.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran will send the black box of the Ukrainian airplane to France in the coming few days in order to read its information," Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said, according to the official IRNA news agency.

France's BEA air accident investigation agency is known as one of the world's leading agencies for reading flight recorders.

Zarif made the comments in a phone call with Canadian Foreign Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne. Canada had 57 citizens on board.

Champagne said in a statement that Zarif had committed to sending the flight recorders to France without further delay.

He also said Iran had "agreed to enter into negotiations for reparations" but gave no details. Champagne has consistently pressed Iran to compensate the families of victims.

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said in February that Kiev was not satisfied with the size of compensation Iran had offered.

The fate of the cockpit voice and data "black box" recorders was the subject of an international standoff after the plane was shot down, with Ukraine demanding access.

Iran says the coronavirus crisis has contributed to delays in a probe by its Air Accident Investigation Board.

Tehran has been sending mixed messages about where the black boxes may be read. Last week, Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami said they would be sent to Ukraine.

These crafty Iranians, It's not going to come as a huge surprise if the the information on the box is "damaged and unreadable" somehow...

Yes, why on earth wait for 5 months ?

And why bother ? I think we know the cause of the crash...

What's nonsense??

It sounds like you're confirming what I said, then saying it's nonsense!????

The article says that the Iranians have hung on to the recorders for 5 months. Your response was that the Ethiopians did, I quote 'exactly the same'.

I say again, The recorders went from crash site to the lab in France in only 4 days.

So just who is talking nonsense?

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh! You're being pedantic!???? It just took a different amount of time for the Ethiopians & Iranians to do the same thing (because they don't trust America/Boeing), that strikes me as hair-splitting.

Why? The Iranians admitted they shot it down already.

Analysis of the flight data recorders and cockpit voice recorders by

a competent  authority is essential to complete the investigation and official accident report.

You mean when the vile  George HW Bush admitted guilt payed reparations

then stated he would never "apologize for America"? Disgusting.

I'm not a compensation specialist but I think the cause of the crash is separate from the cause of death. Yes the passengers died because of the crash caused by the missile but some passengers died by the explosion, some died after falling to the ground inside the crashing plane. Heck, some victims could of died from their injuries from hitting the ground, they were alive for the whole event. So I imagine some people get greater compensation for the length of time it took to die at the hands of the Iranian defense forces missile hit. Now it is all about the money. YMMV

Sounds racist to me.

Think they should call them:

Absence of visible light boxes, or AVBL's.

I believe that they are actually bright orange in colour - which rather "trumps" your suggestion!

That is lawyer speak. The flight data recorders will show the aircraft was flying fine.

The CVR might show something. The cause of the crash (and every death) was the shoot down.

I garantee other procedural errors, such as altered flight path without notification to air defense forces, or poor communication may have been a factor

as it is almost unthinkable a scheduled passenger airliner can be shot down in Iranafter just departing an Iranian

airport.

Yes Iran shot down an aircraft that left one of their airports and was

leaving Iran. Mistake, no, trigger happy military staff absolutely!

There should have already been some stretched necks for this

dangerous mistake. Has that happened?

Geezer
