Unfortunately if that is true then they have sealed there fate and will also be amongst the unemployed as the IO workforce can be reduced to just 15%

The only thing it shows is that Thais have same view as the people in the other countries which avoided much of the death and misery of the Covid19 pandemic.  The people in favour of lifting travel restrictions are only concerned about themselves.

Japan, South Korea, Taiwan  don't want to be invaded by  swarms of  the infected.   Look at Canada which is so tied to the USA. The consensus in that country is to keep the US border closed. They also want flight restrictions to the rest of the world continued. 

The ravaged countries of the UK and the USA expect the rest of the world to welcome their nationals with open arms.   Aint going to happen.

If Thai people are smart they keep the borders closed until 2021.

Looks like they prepare the ground to expel the rest of us from the country. Any foreigner is dangerous by definition now.

Not so strange, no xenophobia at all. Why would a country that did a good job protecting itself from Covid open up to countries like for instance the US where covid is rampant and hte UK that did a bad job and Inda where its spreading like wildfire. 

 

I can understand them for not wanting foreigners and then a second lock down. We all seen how some foreigners hate wearing masks and think all of this is stupid. So why import more of those arrogant foreigners who have a high chance of being infected.

 

If there is 14 days quarantine with tests then yes its xenophobia. However who would trust the government to run these quarantines good if the numbers of people increase. 

Maybe not all foreigners but certain group......

there are only 200,000 farangs in the country. the population of Thailand is 66 million. 

 

yes we do contribute each in our own way and i am sure it is important for our friends and family but it has hardly any affect on the overall Thai economy.

Went to a very nice hotel in Pattaya for the weekend at my step-daughter's behest. Very nice, comfy bed, nice bathtub, and an excellent buffet.
Couldn't help thinking that without Westerners none of these places would exist for the youngsters to become accustomed to.
On the other hand they might have pristine beaches a few hours closer to home.

Well said.. its amazing how important a lot of foreigners think they are. Probably never came into contact with Thais who held jobs outside the tourist industry or educated Thais. 

Some of us throw a bit more dosh about and may have a legit feeling of contributing to the economy vs. the ones who are a bit well spartan in their spending.

I think i throw around more then most but still its nothing compared to the total economy. Its just delusional to think we make a huge impact. It shows how important some people feel they are and the entitlement. If you crunch the numbers you will quickly see there is no truth in it in reality.

Sure it is! We all know that, but my belief is that they are also during decades became rather tired of many foreigners behavior in this country. I just posted I believe that contributes to the wish to wait for many, because they also know it´s inevitable that the country have to open up for the good of the economy.

True.. if you see how some foreigners behave .. the entitlement and the rudeness. Just shameful. 

 

I think its the same the world over when you get too many tourists. Now in Belgium they don't want Dutch teenagers anymore because they misbehave. That does not mean the Belgium people don't misbehave but its easier to single out foreigners plus of course the abuse by those Dutch teens.

 

With covid there were quite some foreigners that did not want to wear masks. That stands out. It does not stand out when a Thai does it as people usually judge their own far more easy. All those foreigners flaunting the rules don't do the rest of us any good.

While I agree with your premise, Thailand would be absolutely nowhere without foreign investment.
