Bangkok: "We'll refuse to close again - that'll be the end of us" - Shabu restaurant tells government where to go

A leading Shabu restaurant in Bangkok had some choice words for the government in the wake of the cases of the Egyptian soldier and Sudanese girl who tested positive for coronavirus leading to closures of department stores and some schools. 

 

The restaurant at the Talat Phlu market said on Facebook that they would refuse to close again if ordered to do so. 

 

They have already suffered enough and the owner and staff need to earn a living and eat. 

 

They blamed the government for the fiasco and said they would defy them. 

 

The post caused a firestorm of comment on Thai social media.

Sure government messed up then the government must compensate them. Too bad that those who mess up don't get punished. People locked down, it combated the virus and then by error of the government there is risk again.

Thin end of the wedge, unfortunately; Thailand has targeted the total elimination of the virus at the expense of almost everything else. Consequences such as these will increasingly be the norm.

I would think that there would be grounds for a case to sue the government for failing with its "duty of care" to stop the Egyptians from quarantining, one size should fit all in these circumstances, why else would they now be making all diplomats, their families and staff to quarantine, a little too late, but better late than never.

and i got to tell you if i have not contracted the virus after what i have been doing for the past 5 weeks then nobody is.

LOL... is Thailand the ONLY country where the 2nd wave came up? Comparing the entire world, Thailand did very much better than some of the 'best' isn't it?

As adults, should not we comment with some responsibility? Should we just shout aloud in public what comes freely into our biased minds?

Thailand did it much better then the best, no doubt about it. But how they messed up shows that they don't treat everyone the same. That is the point that the army thinks its ok to treat certain groups differently because of status. That is what the outrage is about not because they messed up a bit. This is far better then how it went in the US and Europe.

And what of the people who do go there, contract the illness and then spread it around to innocent people. What about the right of people not to be put at risk?  I feel for so many of the service  personnel who have to  interact with so many selfish  clients.

Go after the Egyptians. the Thais acted in good faith and took the Egyptians at their word. the Egyptians  were dishonest. Don't blame the victims. Hold the responsible party to account.

The last Shabu I went to had stopped the endless train of food and you had to pre-order what you wanted. Takes all the fun away, hope they get back to normal soon.

My step son's Shabu restaurants in CM are back to normal for about a week now.

I disagree, you can't have a set of rules for one and another set of rules for another, especially outsiders, hence the reason you end up with a situation like this in my opinion, the Covid-19 doesn't have any good faith, so a strong arm of the law is the only one rule that will keep everyone in check, otherwise don't bother coming to Thailand, or any other place in the world that has the same set of rules, a Thai official stuffed up and the Thai government should be held accountable as it failed to uphold the law.

My highest respect for the COVID-19, albeit the chaos it is creating!

But a good lesson for the developed, educated and intelligent humans to learn from this virus.

You could only imagine the mayhem and disaster if Thailand hadn't and dosn't keep strict controls in force. Their health system is archaic and in no way able to cope with 10s or 100s of thousands infected.

Sometimes I wonder if the people who complain about the Thai government's Covid handling ever look at the news from the rest of the word.

It seems in Thailand people are concerned about 2 (two!) active cases - and nothing for more than a month.

Obviously 0 cases is a lot better than 2 cases but what do people expect? Do they really think anybody can expect from any government and all government workers perfection all the time? Get real!

Errors happen and will always happen. The details were published fast and the reaction was fast. It looks like Thailand officials will make sure anybody infected will be found fast and the spread will be stopped. I think that is about as good as it gets.

Thank you Prayut and the rest of the Thai officials to make the Covid situation as good as it is. You are better than many many countries in this world including many countries who call themselves First World.

what baffles me, is the
people expecting governments globally to be working perfectly FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER
people expecting governments to actually be concerned about "saving lives" FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER
people expecting governments not to take advantage of a situation to push political agendas FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER

I have a friend in his 60s been doing that 3 times a day for the last 30 years!
