Bye bye tourism...

Quote: A total of 9,835 flights are scheduled to leave the UK for Spain between July 26 and Aug. 31, which equates to a total of approximately 1.8 million scheduled seats, according to Aviation data analysts Cirium.

Thailand is not on the radar anymore... and that's just to Spain, Europeans are staying in Europe taking advantage of low prices and easy access.

I think the Kybosh has already been put on that.... many have cancelled now due to having quarantine on return

Don't come then.

The cost of opening up willy nilly, and allowing the virus to run rife will not only destroy tourism, but will harm the local population. The cost of that risk far outweighs the loss of tourism revenue - which will still be very high.

Thought I was clear on that . And everything gets easier to say if your in the right place at the right time ????

No idea what you mean.

Do you expect Thailand just to open up? If you are in Thailand rite now, and not worrying about Covid, then you really are in bliss. I live in the UK, and quite frankly at times it's pure hell just going to get some food. My sisters lives in California and it's just horrendous out there.

Not suffering from the effects of Covid, far outweigh any hurt to the economy. There are countries in the west who would gladly swap with Thailand, even it meant an economic crash.

I hope he's referring to the tens of thousands of migrant workers arriving legally now from neighbouring countries. Though how these people can pay for ASQ I have no idea. Perhaps their employers will foot the bill?

And the $100.000US insurance?

This clown needs to be quiet, pull his pants back up and stop flapping out his corn hole. At this moment it is the thai coming back home that have the C19, but if he gonna talk like that then he needs to say everyone, ie, all Thai, all 3rd class foreigners, all 4th class migrant workers and even their owners as all the superior Chinese will be quarantined.

It is mouth pieces like this that turn situations bad.

2 people in the Jeep have no masks on? Irresponsible again.

And in September there is the biggest Thailand Food show that was rescheduled. They gonna quarantine 15,000 people from many countries for 14 days before the show? They might as well cancel it now.

We are in the middle of a pandemic. Go look at India to see how bad a pandemic can get if you can't control it in the early stages. India stupidly kept everything open, loose borders around Bangladesh and northern regions. Locked down too late when the virus was everywhere, and now have just given up.

Look at the UK. Didn't lock down, when the evidence from China, Italy was rite infront of them. Even as all of Europe closed down, they stayed open for a few extra weeks (because they thought they knew better). It's been horrific there.

Any loss Thailand will make from tourism, far outweighs the cost that would have been had the virus taken hold of Thailand, as well as the physical and well being of the population.

Bah, bah,

Try looking at Sweden.  lower death rate than the UK, schools open as normal. Some restrictions but a much smaller hit on the economy.

Another irresponsible comment from a government minister...tell that to the folk who rely on tourists for a living....there will be no foreign tourists even contemplating coming if they will be put in quarantine...

Nowadays any farang and covid related comments will attract wide groups of listeners, right now, there is nothing more assuring than lumping farangs and covid/corona talks in the same breath...

Foreign tourism is dead. Escorted groups with an itinerary and everyone tested on arrival and departure. Its the new normal for countries that want to keep the virus out. It will be the same for business groups also. It aint gonna get any better than that. Especially while so many countries have flaring clusters.

 Bah, Bah,

Try looking at India, USA, Brazil. Sweden with a tiny population over a massive land space, needlesly caused massive damange. Compared to Norway and Denmark they've done appalling.

And this particular minister is the one who was supposed to be fighting the tourism industry's corner within the government, so I thought! ????

And there's the obligatory Baht whinge.

Guess you don’t give a damn about currency.  Lucky you, not on fixed pension. But some of us do care.  We support families and villages to a lesser extent.  When the Baht overwhelms us, we’ll lock up and leave—many will lose out.  Damned right I watch the Baht.

Is this guy another soldier? I wonder just how many government or it is cabinet ministers are soldiers, no, not ex soldiers, if they keep their stupid fancy ranks, then they are still soldiers, or is it only the police who have these fancy ranks? Thailand sure is a confusing country.

Stay home then

If I had to go to the UK right now, I would not stay in a self quarantine situation, who is going to check? The police are too busy in their offices or out in cars chasing motorists to bother about someone in quarantine going out during the 14 days.

No one is talking about opening up "willy nilly"!

But don't you find it strange, that a country - in large parts depending on tourism- has NO PLAN whatsoever, when or how to open up again, except for the measures in place?

Apart from the abysmal testing numbers, that make me believe, the all other numbers are simply made up, as well, there is no activity in propping up numbers of ventilators or PPE, no re-designing from "normal" hospital rooms to ICU's...

The only ideas are lockdown, energency decree, quaranteen in asigned hotels and dumb stuff like that!

On the other hand: millions of people, working in all kinds of  businesses, impacted by tourism, are going belly up and broke!

"Don't come then" is just a really dumb sthing to say!

"All arriving foreigners must be quarantined."

Except those special few who's wealth and position would find it uncomfortable and/or inconvenient.

For how long? one month? 3 months? A year? 10 years? All for a virus no more dangerous than flu.

My guess is 18 months to 2 years.

You're wrong. Covid-19 is significantly more dangerous than typical seasonal flu.
