I wonder what he does for a living that he can afford a 11 million Porsche at the age of 18...

He can´t! Daddy can! Sorry Dad, but you know that Porsche. You better call it scrap metal now.

A lot more money than sense, or driving skill.  What is an 18 year old doing in that kind of car, unless he has a F1 Super Licence, which I doubt?  No doubt in his way to doing what is now termed a "Red Bull".

I remember when I was about 18 and living in England. It wasn't often I saw a super car, but when I did it was being driven by an older person. I remember how we used to talk about having to get a really good job and save to buy something like that.

I guess I was lucky because I worked part time in an antique shop and my boss had a Lotus Europa, a jaguar e-type and a Bentley (something or other) and I did get chances to drive them all. I never got to try them at full speed though as I was too afraid. I didn't have the skills at that time. (I still don't)

knowing your limit is one of the rare things that do come with age and experience,

and there really isnt any way around finding your limit beside crossing that limit

... on the way to gokarting!

 - with a bit of patience he could have dIscovered a cheaper way, that Dodg'em cars are tougher...

In the originator newspaper report... it'd be closer to replace 'damage - with 'destruction'

Sometimes it's a benefit being born poor, if I'd had a Porsche in my youth I'd be dead now for sure. As it was, I totalled my Mini 1275 GT (which I paid for myself, incidentally). Wild times; expecting young men to be responsible is like expecting water to run uphill.

A bit exaggerated, but it encapsulates the mood.

The Carrera 4S, worth around 11 million baht, was driven by an 18 year old man.

It isn't worth nearly that much anymore, a very ugly colour anyway.

It was not "driven" , clearly lacking skill of driving .

A lot of replies but it is not a big deal!

I would imagine a lot of similar accidents happen all over Thailand and indeed all over the world.

Nobody got killed or badly hurt and no one did a runner so what is the problem?

Because obviously they have money?

Jealous anyone ?

Why give the driver an assumed name ?

Give his real name and a clear photo of him, at least it might shame the parents into sending out for driving lessons

This isn't one those "porches" with a 4 cylinder volkswagen engine is it?

No, the volkswagen engine were on the 914 and the 924

more recently on the V6 Cayenne

i owned a 944 in my middle age crisis, and it was a Porsche engine

the ''dream'' quickly turned in a nightmare when i realized it wasn't as solid

as you could hope for a luxurious car built in Germany and the maintenance

and repair costs were enormous.

Incidently the increase in the ''power seduction'' with the car was near 0

Eventually i sold it 3 years later (For half of the price)

He said he was unfamiliar with the road

In the future he should walk at the roads before he wants to drive on this roads. Then he is familiar with them. What a stupid excuse!

He must have been moving I have owned a couple of Porsche so I know what they are capable of, I guess another problem in Thailand is with insurance companies who in their right mind would insure an 18 years old, I was in my 40's and could only get owner driver insurance for mine get caught drink driving insurance null and void

When I was about 19 I owned a ford escort and went around a bend too fast and met a tree.

Same outcome except my ford was worth about 200 quid.... I learned the lesson much more affordably and luckily no one was hurt, only the ford.

18 year old (except for potentially young racing drivers) + super car = no brainier guaranteed accident
