August 2020 - how's the jellyfish situation?

Featured Replies

I spent some time in Hua Hin in June this year and no jelly fish in sight, I could swim every day!

Thinking about going back now, how's the situation? Is it still ok to swim or the dreaded critters are starting to appear?

I have seen a few small ones washed up on the shore as I walk along the beach the last two weeks, then last week I got stung on my belly and right hand.  I watched the waters as I walked out to deeper water and never saw it, but as soon as I stopped and turned around it floated up into my belly.  I would be very careful, though there were others in the water without problems.  I was at the area of Condochain where I live.

Hua Hin has always had a lot of jelly fish during the rainy season.  I would recommend wearing a long sleeve T-shirt when out in the water just to give you another barrier.  It may not be 100% effective but it is better than nothing.

I had them as a spicy salad, was ok.

None in June, but visited this week and they vastly outnumbered Chinese tourists.  Small brown ones (the fish; not the Chinese), about the size of a tennis ball.  Most of the horse owners clean up after their horses, and most of the Jetski operators are safe, and most of the soi dogs don't bite..
