Covid-19 tests on the corpse of an elderly Laotian man, whose death caused panic in Udon Thani’s Nong Han district, have come out negative.

Kompum Pimpadi, 61, had been sitting on a wooden bench in front of his house when he began vomiting blood, and died soon after on Tuesday (August 18). His sudden death terrified the locals, who believed he may have succumbed to a Covid-19 infection.

Officials from Nong Han Hospital, all wearing PPE gear, showed up to examine the corpse and collect samples for lab tests.

The samples tested negative for Covid-19, but found that the cause of death was tuberculosis.

The man and his wife had entered Thailand through the natural border to visit their daughter in Udon Thani.

TB is a very infectious disease which kills more people in Thailand than Covid ever has. I know because I have survived it.

At least he got to see his daughter.

When the science on this infection is finally done, it will be interesting to see if there were any misdiagnose.

Wife also, caught it here. Very lucky, diagnosed it early

Almost never hear about Tuberculosis anymore in the west because it was almost totally wiped out because of vaccines against it. I remember all of us students getting the TB skin tests in school back in the early and mid 1950’s in Canada. And the vaccinations.
Now you never hear about it. But in the late 19th and early 20th century it was fairly common. Almost every city in North America and Europe had their Sanitarium Tuberculosis Hospitals. We had ours here in my city in the Niagara Region of Canada. Polio is another bad disease we used to have here.... also wiped out,
Wyatt Earp’s friend Doc Holliday and his mother died of it in the U.S.

Another bad disease almost wiped out because of effective vaccines.
Should get vaccinated against it in that part of the world.  I got vaccinated against almost everything there is a vaccine for before my long term trips to that part of the world.

Before the borders were closed I hope?

At least one quarter of the World's population currently have TB but mostly in a "latent" form - the healthy immune system suppresses it. If something happens to the immune system, then out it comes. Sometimes this is happes in old age as the immune system deteriorates. There is medication for TB - taking isoniazid for a year, in my case. Not a pleasant medication due to side-effects. But at least it is available.

Most of those who die of TB either have a version that cannot be treated, have complications or do not want to take the medication either for financial or other reasons. The meds are not expensive but you do have to keep at it otherwise it will come back and maybe in an untreatable form.

But as regards TB killing more people than Covid - just give Covid time. It is early days. TB has infected more than a quarter of the population of humans - Covid is only just starting.

Be very interesting to see under what death diagnoses Thailand hid its true covid deaths under.Fully huge rise in pneumonia, lung disease and old age deaths.

He will be relieved to hear that he died of TB. No doubt it will still be registered as CV19 on his death certificate though, got to keep the scam going somehow.

TB is far more dangerous & contagious than wuflu ... a year worth of antibiotics to ruin your health for the rest of your life

The girlfriend says in the last few weeks quite a few have sneaked back over the border from where she lives in Laos.

But now the populace can be relaxed. No need to panic, it's only TB. Everything under control  :whistling:
