Background:

Past public holidays we were going to go away for the long weekend, however the hotel that we usually stay at lifted their room rates by 85% which was either a big win or a big loss for them as we declined not to go away, even with the 40% discount available by the government.

The above said we have just booked the same hotel for the upcoming long weekend as they appear to have come to their senses, i.e. they lifted their room rate by 40% this time as opposed to 85% last time, so I would imagine that their grab for money backfired last time, otherwise why would they only charge 40% more this time ?

Anyway when I booked the room, I entered 3 letters and 4 numbers my wife gave me, putting them in the message box when making the booking under her name. My question is, to receive the 40% discount, do they send us something back in an email when they confirm the details of the 3 letters and the 4 numbers with the government that my wife registered with some time back, and then we pay them the revised amount when we arrive at the hotel, as it states that we pay when we arrive, there was no other option to pay online.

You download the government app.  Transfer money from your bank to the app.  Then, at the hotel, you pay with the app.  It’s the same with the 40% restaurant discounts too.  The hotel should be able to walk you through the process and let you know where to find the app.  If I try to get my girlfriend to explain it to me, and then me try to explain it here to you...it’ll be a cluster<deleted>.

Thank you, yes the wife has the app, but when speaking to someone at the hotel on the phone prior to me posting here for answers, the receptionist said, you put the money in the app and pay the hotel online, that was before I told my wife there isn't anywhere to pay online on the hotels website.

Wife now tells me that she should receive an email from the hotel in 3 days which will say the government has approved your 40% discount, and then she has to go to the app where the app will say this is your booking, this is the amount to have to pay the hotel, and then she puts that amount of money in the wallet and sends it to the hotel.

Enough to confuse me, did you say cluster f, yep sure is, so no need for your girlfriend to explain it as I have my own cluster f, so will leave it to the expert to sort...lol, I will just do the driving and cough up when required.

Booked our hotels on Agoda, clicking on the blue box for the discount scheme, and paid upfront.

Agoda didn't have the room we wanted available so we booked it on the hotels website and there was no option to pay online on their website, so I suppose we will wait for 3 days and see what happens. My wife anticipates that they will email us advising us to go to the government app after it has been approved and put the money in the wallet and that should take care of it.

Too much for me to handle, I like a simpler approach, pay by card and then get reimbursed, that or take the discount out and bill the government.

Did it last week, once it's set up payment is simple, no cash involved all done of the app. Mrs just rang up the hotel and booked then the voucher money appears in the app every day. If she can do it it can't be very difficult. Ours was far cheaper calling the Hotel than booking.com etc even with the discount. 2160 baht for TWO nights inc breakfast at the Chatrium river 5 star. Had to book 2x2 night as it was book one get one free, I leave all that stuff to her, she loves saving money even though I pay in the end. Fantastic scheme IMO. Was surprised you even get 40% off booze as well.

Couple things...

1. Someone want to post Android Google Play Store links to the app/apps that are necessary for this?

2. How long's the whole government-sponsored hotels and restaurants promotion thing supposed to last for?

It lasts until end of Oct, no idea about downloading the app, that's Thai business -we don't actually qualify you have to register for it first on govt web site I think

Dunno where you’re planning on staying but man...I gotta tell you...the deal at DusitD2 in AoNang (Krabi) has been so freaking great that the original 5 night deal has turned into a 3 week stay.  I might as well just move in.  No affiliation with them whatsoever but WOW!  Once you’re finished with the travel together deal, they have special deals for we foreigners (with drivers license, work permit or ID card)

We are staying at the 4* BlueSotel Smart Ao Nang paid just 2480 baht for a 3 night stay inc breakfast...meal vouchers 600 baht/day to use in our favourite restaurant here including drinks :clap2:

Back again next month for a midweek break where the meal vouchers are 900 baht/day

If I had a mia noi, she would be staying in the same room as the wife, 3's not a crowd for me.

I don't like to spend more than 2,000 baht a night for a hotel including breakfast, same for a young filly as it all adds up ????
