Did the Subcommittee then have to talk to the committee to buy a sub ?

They met at Subways, listening to the yellow submarine song by the fab four

22.5bill baht = $713m dollars or $357m per submarine.

Quite a deal when you consider a Sea-wolf class submarine cost $2.8 BILLION and a Virginia class $1.8 BILLION

But they are a completely different type of sumbarine.

IMHO the government should buy only one sub and spend the money for the other 2 on anti submarine ships. That is of course if they absolutely have to have one.

The uproar is wrong. We all know the technological advancements the Burmese have. Thailand must be up-to date with their neighbor's military advancements.

I heard that Thailand has plans to sell one submarine to Laos for double its purchased price.

That will be the one with the wheels ideal for penetrating heavy jungle......"Up periscope".......(sound of tearing metal).......

Why not just buy a few carrier qualified aircraft and then film the Carrier Qualifications for us to watch.  Would be fun.  (Yes I have landed on a carrier as the pilot)

But have you ever landed on a submarine?..........Fear not, the Navy Chief will be explaining their operational plan to the public shortly.

Doesn't this smell of irregularities?Has any one seen any of our subs here in action?

Doubt it, unless you're a scuba diver.....????

Well !. The 22.5 Billion Baht spend for the 2 Submarines will take care of almost 50% of the money that is proposed to be borrowed from the ADB.

I wonder what the rest will be spent on .

The Lao Navy is more than well equipped already.

In reality a sub needs a decent depth to swim around in,  the Gulf does NOT have the depth.   But you need these toys really when you have very hostile neighbours  5555555

Correct the median depth is about 56 mtrs. anybody know the height of one of these pieces of Sh@t. In future news 2 subs collide under a longtail fishing boat all nets were lost.

They might be a little different? I sure would not want to be in a Chinese sub with either of the above looking for me!

Amazing Thailand needs to be renamed Absurd Thailand.  But the good news is they only have to put down a deposit now and a few progress payments over a number of years.

check the picture in the headline. is it a 'sea-wolf class'? does it anywhere near resemble a 'virginia class'? .... no, paint it yellow and it could pass as a prop for a 60's music video.....

"South Pacific"............nope,  more  like  South China  Sea, although I dont remember that  particular  musical?

And as a bonus, the Chinese subs sink much faster.

guess the mia noi's ran out of money or maybe the newly added mia noi's need a lot of money.

Unbelievable how they manage to be the number 1 laughing stock of the world, they would make great stand up comedians.

The picture looks like a WW2 sub should be easier to drive than a high tech nuclear sub, although diving will be a problem in the gulf, the crew can compensate by spending more time on the surface taking selfies.

In addition to the absurdity of both the lack of military need and the overwhelming need for relief for unemployed citizens, there is the issue of China's future ability to exert political blackmail.

China is offering many countries all kinds of "Loss leader" cheap deals (from materiel to construction projects) in order to get it's foot in the door.  Then it has those countries by the short hairs, ie, political blackmail.  Which way are the blackmailed countries likely to lean / vote when China is involved in a controversial issue with some other country?

In Thailand's case the RTN will be heavily dependent upon China for Doctrine, Organization, Training, Logistics & Materiel upgrades (DOTLM).  Anger China & such support will be threatened.

The sub(s) will be a museum piece just like the aircraft carrier Chakri Naruebet locked down in Sattahip port.

Regardless, one has to question why Thailand needs submarines at all?

They'll be building ski slopes in Esan next!

Same practices across the world. People complaining about immigrants etc. While governments spend billions on space travel and arms.

None of which will benefit the common man.
