I have had Thais explain to me that it is karma coming back on these people.  They have done something bad previously so they deserve it.  The same has been explained to me as to why some Thais have no caring for animals, they are just bad people reincarnated and they have to pay for their previous sins.  It may be what some Thais believe but I am sure their attitude has Siddhartha rolling in his grave.

You need to BE homeless before you can show the proper attitude toward the homeless. I have not encountered a single expat in Thailand who has any compassion for the homeless. Most of us are about two paychecks away from the street.

I know that they are not so cute. But perhaps if they sit next to Soi dogs they get some help too... We need a Soi Homeless Humans Foundation. Yesterday even an older Farang asked me for money. How should this end?

However, they also stated that arresting or locking up the homeless was not the answer.

The Pattaya News has previously been offered by some hotel owners whose hotels are currently closed to allow homeless to stay in their buildings.  We note that if there are individuals interested in possibly helping to reach out to the Chonburi Homeless Protection Center and local officials by calling the 24 hour contact center at 1337. Several local temples have also been reaching out to the homeless and providing support as well.''

It is not easy to help such people. You can give them food and money. But if you really want to help them you need to give them a future. And this is a very different story then.

Thailand is a Buddhist country but that doesn’t mean all Thai’s follow the Bhudda’s teachings. Same analogy goes for ‘Christian countries’.

Oh, Thai stray dogs are not at the lowest level in the Sakdina hierarchy. There are many humans on lower levels. Especially if of foreign provenance, however.

 I can't do nothing for their future but giving them some food or money to buy food is better then stepping over them like their a bit of dog <deleted> or they just don't exist ,it would at least kill the hunger pains and them hydrated for awhile.

Few weeks ago i saw a homeless guy laying on the sidewalk of Sukhumvit....an hour later he was still there but in a huge puddle of 'water'....his chang noi was still hanging out and he didn't even move when he'd done that..

Very true. Los Angeles is full of people living in tents on the street. Santa Monica, being it's own city, has laws restricting this. However Venice, which is just South of Santa Monica, is part of Los Angeles city and also full of tents. It's not just the tents but boxes and bags full of their stuff and some people hoard 'stuff'. In downtown Los Angeles tents are on every street. Even on a new pedestrian bridge that goes over the freeway. I now live in Thailand, just north of Chiang Mai. We don't have that problem here, thankfully.

A few years ago I was sat at a pavement cafe in Amsterdam and across the road there was a woman lying on the pavement with a cardboard sign that said something like " help, deaf and dumb". About six o'clock she got up and walked across the bridge, pulled off her wig and coat and climbed into a merc that had pulled up.
