No more enforced social distancing on Thailand’s public rail networks

Thailand’s Department of Rail Transport has decided to ease social distancing measures, when travelling on all public rail transport systems, by allowing the occupancy of all seats, but passengers must wear face masks and refrain from talking to each other during the journey.

The easing applies to train services operated by the State Railway of Thailand, the Metropolitan Rapid Transit (MRT), Bangkok Expressway and Metro (BEM), BTS and SRT’s Electric Train Company.

The service operators are still required to check the temperatures of all passengers before boarding and ensure carriages are not too packed, despite easing social distancing for seating.

Good masks are the key to prevent the spread of droplets from the mouth when a person talks or coughs.

Cheapo masks are coming out of China like there's no tomorrow. These masks do not work to well. Nor do many homemade ones.

Good luck Thailand! I wish you the best.

And laughing is strictly prohibited !

I think you could get away with a smirk, as there's no audible sound and the mask will hide the smile.

They've made similar announcements twice now during the last couple of weeks, even though the rapid transit lines in Bangkok actually stopped blocking seats and limiting passenger numbers quite a while ago. But I suspect none of the people making these grand pronouncements actually ride the trains.

Waiting for the new announcement that anti government political rallies are bad for the health of protesters, due to the lack of social distancing !

Getting to a rally on a packed form of public transport is safe though !
