Police said a lemon farmer in Kamphaeng Phet province murdered his family and then killed himself on Wednesday after sending a farewell message to his relatives explaining he was facing a financial crisis.

Police and medics from Thung Pho Thale Hospital were called to the scene at 7am.

They discovered three bodies with gunshot wounds.

The farmer, Phayom Srithong-ayu, 59, was found a gunshot wound to the head. Nearby were the bodies of his wife Samran Srithong, 53, shot in the back, and step-daughter Wiphawan Phunakieow, 20, shot in the chest.

A gun was found lying on Phayom’s left foot.

Phayom’s relative, Suphawan Phumcharoen, said he had sent a farewell message via Line of the family saying that the relatives could take all his insurance money.

After receiving the message, Suphawan said she rushed to his house. She found him crying at the entrance and asked where his wife and step-daughter were. He replied that they were gone. She said she left to fetch help to break into the house, but when she returned the whole family was already dead.

The first thing I remember learning in secondary school is "To every problem,  there is a solution. It's just a matter of finding it". Unfortunately, nobody told this old chap.

How desperate must a man be to wipe out his family and himself?

RIP

Did they mean 'Lime farmer'?

Not many lemons grown in Thailand, but I do know many Thais that appear to believe limes are lemons which have been picked before they are ripe.

I have 2 lemon trees.

Dont think insurance would pay anything to him

Agree...suicide is often an excluded condition in life insurance policies. I guess they can have this year's lemon harvest, if this hasn't already been pledged on a loan.

What about the murdered victim, if she was insured, would the insurance pay out .

Like, A was married to B and B had life insurance .

If A murdered B , would the life insurance pay out to family of A +B ?

Another very brave Thai man.

Another frightened and destroyed human being actually. Your comment is racist as such tragedies happen all over the world, including your country.
