sriracha john Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 Thaksin govt's plan for new province scrapped The deposed government's plan to make Hua Hin and nearby districts in Prachuap Khiri Khan and Phetchaburi a new province is to be scrapped after opinion surveys showed that the majority of residents disapproved of it. The surveys were conducted by local state agencies in the two provinces, said Hua Hin mayor Siripan Kamolpramote. The plan to form a new province from parts of Prachuap Khiri Khan and Phetchaburi was initiated under the Thaksin Shinawatra administration. Wirach Piyapornphaiboon, chairman of the Prachuap Khiri Khan Chamber of Commerce, said the plan to create a new province was just a ploy by the deposed government to divide locals. Scrapping the plan would lead to financial damage for land speculators who have scooped up beach-front land in the two provinces. Those speculators failed to foresee the Sept 19 coup d'etat, said Mr Wirach. How does scrapping the plans for a new proposed province lower the value of one's beach-front land by even a single satang?

jumnien Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 This leaves Thailand's longest province intact! It's also the Kingdom's narrowest at just 11 kilometers from the sea to the Myanmar border just south of Prachuab. And I have to agree with ovenman regarding the connection with beachfront property values and the proposed new province deal - no connection. It's not like Thaksin took the seaviews with him to London.
ovenman Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 This leaves Thailand's longest province intact! I'm pretty sure that both Chiang Mai and Lampang have a greater north-south length, but I won't dispute the claim of narrowest!
ovenman Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Yea and there was rumor Hua Hin was getting a Disneyland A potential Disneyland is something that probably would inflate property values in certain areas.

This spot we passed in Trat province is reportedly the narrowest place in Thailand with the border of Cambodia just beyond the hill and the Gulf of Siam very near back the other way. The Narrowest Point of ThailandLocated on the Trat- Khlong Yai Road, at km. 81-82. It is only 450 meters from Banthat Mountain to the coast of the Gulf of Thailand.
