Student protesters on Wednesday announced plans to camp overnight at Thammasat University on September 19 before marching to Government House the following morning.

Plans for the latest large anti-government rally were revealed by the United Front of Thammasat and Demonstration group at a press conference.

Observers predict the rally could attract up to 100,000 participants, making it the largest protest since the 2014 coup.

The protest will start at 2pm at Thammasat’s Tha Prachan Campus in Bangkok, according to student leaders Parit Chiwarak and Panusaya Sithijirawattanakul. The rally is expected to spill over to nearby Sanam Luang as Thammasat will not have capacity to hold such large numbers.

Ratchadamnoen Klang road will be also closed to make way for protest-related activities.

Participants will march to Government House at 8am on September 20.

Pro-democracy protesters are calling for a rewrite of the junta-drafted Constitution, a halt to intimidation of activists, and dissolution of Parliament.

Student-led protests have intensified in recent months, despite a government crackdown in which police have issued arrest warrants for activists. MPs have agreed to the proposal to draft a new Constitution, but have not yet reached consensus on whether to first cancel the unelected Senate’s power to vote for a new prime minister.

Speaking during the House debate on Wednesday night, the prime minister said as a father he cares about the well-being of the students whom he said he regards “as my own children.”

Yes jail them to as one father to another uncle P ????

There is no Covid in Thailand!!!

Of course there isn't any. It's just people mysteriously getting sick on their planes out of the Kingdom to damage Thailand's reputation as Corona control hub.

The kind Uncle Tu meant his nephews and nieces and the friendly police will be handing them gifts of flowers, water and food. This parade is not a protest it's a show of love and respect for Uncle Tu and his perfectly well run and uncorrupt Government.

"He has instructed police to be cautious and lenient in dealing with the young protesters...."  MIGHTY nice to tell police to be cautious and lenient as the students exercise their Constitutional rights. (he must be reading the Nixon/Trump playbook on Protests Going Wrong).....implying there is an obvious alternative that, although illegal, is too obvious to ignore.....it seems like he is saying "My attack dogs have been instructed not to bite you as you lay down to sleep in your own house...  But.... (sigh)....dogs will be dogs, boys (shrug)".

Good kids.  They should challenge cha cha to a debate.   That is something he dreads.  That will rid him once and for all from Thai politics.  He is a entitle coward.   He will not debate, but will wear pretty clothes instead.

Somebody on this forum should make a picture book of all his glamorous outfits.  The question is who could pull such an audacious project?

Don't worry i would imagine the bloke you're alluding too S......100 has already got an overflowing scrap book not counting the pictures on his bedroom wall, that can be swung into use at the drop of a hat when he writes the memoirs of Khun Prayut Chan o Cha and how he amassed and deservedly gained his 2 billion bht fortune (according to S...100 that is), order now or now or be forever dissapointed!

A very subjective comment if ever there was one.

He might forget this is not the same as dealing with people in a barracks... that doesn't work out too well either sometimes.

good comments from our PM Khun Prayut, he will listen to their grievances as required. Let's hope the protesters keep it civil without fighting.
