Norwegian lawmaker nominates Trump for Nobel Peace Prize

OSLO (Reuters) - A Norwegian lawmaker has nominated Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for 2021 for helping broker a deal between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, the second time he has put forward the U.S. president for the honour.

 

Thousands of people are eligible to nominate candidates for the Nobel Peace Prize, including members of parliaments and governments, university professors and past laureates.

 

The Norwegian Nobel Committee, which decides on the award from among several hundred nominations made every year, declined to comment.

 

"It is for his contribution for peace between Israel and the UAE. It is a unique deal," Christian Tybring-Gjedde, a member of parliament for the right-wing Progress Party, told Reuters.

 

The White House in a statement said the Abraham Accords, as the deal is known, gave cause for optimism in the Middle East.

 

"This peace deal is a testament to the bold diplomacy and vision of President Trump, and he is honored to be considered by the Nobel Committee," the White House said.

 

Trump has been unable to negotiate a deal between Israel and the Palestinians, however, and a peace plan he proposed in January that heavily favoured the Israelis has not advanced in any significant way.

 

Tybring-Gjedde, who nominated Trump for the 2019 award for his diplomatic efforts with North Korea, said the latest nomination was also made because of the U.S. troop withdrawal from Iraq.

 

Last year Trump said he deserved to be awarded the Peace Prize for his work on North Korea and Syria, but he complained he probably would never get the honour. Former President Barack Obama, a nemesis of Trump, won the prize in 2009 just months into his first term in office.

 

Nominations for this year's award closed on Jan. 31 and the winner will be announced on Oct. 9 in Oslo.

Donald Trump does not want some participation prize. Had the Nobel committee kept to the original essence of the prize ie awarding it to the individual who made the most contribution to world peace, it would be a fair and deserved award. But having its reputation sullied by awarding to somebody who had no idea why he won it (merely because he checked the PC diversity box) it is just a joke nowadays. 

 I believe Meghan Markle will be the next Nobel award winner. She made no difference to peace, but she ticks the right boxes. Let's see.

Crazy days we live in. Who could have imagined a President that ends all the ridiculous wars of his predecessors and bring the troops home to safety would be called a fascist and dictator? And be told from Bernie Sanders that "the Planet" itself is in danger if this man of peace wins his 2nd term? Seeing as Trump hates the losers and suckers in the military you would think he would leave them out in Iraq to be blown up? Why would he care so much about them he wants them back home with their families? Something is wrong somewhere in the official narrative.

See, now you have protected yourself by stating that he is worthy winning the prize, but the prize is not worthy the person. Wonder how you are going to twist that if he gets the prize. Are you going to say he won a sh(i)t price then?

Excellent copout in the likely case he doesn't win. But I'm sure Trump disagrees with you and would love the prize.

The message was sent loud and clear to the peasantry: If you vote for more people like this we will turn your country upside down and turn you against each other. The elites could have just sat on their hands for 4-8 years but instead they decided to go apoplectic. 

 

Whenever Trump is out the Democrats will just reverse everything he did and do something like put Obama on the 1 dollar bill just to spite them.

 

Republicans will do absolutely nothing except for fume until the next election, which they will lose because Democrats will have imported a terminal amount of new voters.

Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, at a minimum, have US troops present in conflict zones, the insurgency wars are not finalised, nor has peace been achieved in the aforementioned countries.

The US military won't even leave Germany or Japan let alone Iraq. I don't think it's in Trumps control, or anyone else for that matter. It's truly a rouge institution at this point.

He did nothing to earn this, no one even knew how he would govern at this point. He was a barely known figure (unless you lived in Chicago) who was pushed to front of the stage in no small part because of his race. Ironically race relations have been eroding ever since.
