webfact Posted September 16, 2020 Posted September 16, 2020 Officials armed with tranquiliser guns in hunt for wandering bears By THE NATION Officials confirmed on Wednesday (September 16) that the two bears who have been terrorising Khon Kaen residents have yet to be captured and that one of them broke a cage set up to trap them. Officials from the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation have been hunting for these bears since September 6, after they attacked and injured five people. Early morning on Wednesday, officials found that a bear had broken into one of the cages set up in Si Chompu district because it wanted the fruits that had been put inside to lure him. Sutham Wongchan, chief of the Phu Wiang National Park, said officials have been advised to use tranquiliser guns against the bears. It is believed the bears wandered out of the national park while hunting for food.
