I am sure there is more to it, and even the TAT cannot be so stupid to believe that this scheme will work, they cannot be so stupid to believe that it will help the economy in any way, except maybe some rich friends among the elite who own some of the quarantine hotels.

 

I am sure that they create this scheme willfully to be impracticable for most of us. The real point is, I assume, that they do not want tourists anymore for now.

 

It seems obvious that this scheme is made only to appease the populace for a while and to show the Thai tourism industry that they are doing something to help, while in reality their plan is to ruin the industry willfully, to make it a cheap bargain for Chinese investors, plus a few rich Thai investors of their clique. A win-win-win situation for the junta, some others in the elite, and especially the Chinese. That's one reason also why the create all this panic and paranoia regarding Covid. Where else could the unusual wealths of the political (military) leaders of this country come from, and all the expensive watches if not from China? It's well known how the Chinese road-and-belt initiative works.

 

After the outbreak of the pandemic, China quickly realised the opportunities resulting from it. So, they had a talk with their Thai junta friends then, and this is the result now.

The announcement on Friday from the Department of Disease Control appeared to indicate that the Ministry of Public Health was now pursuing an initiative where foreign tourists will also only be allowed to come to Thailand after quarantining at home for 14 days with a stipulation that a negative a Covid 19 test is conducted at the beginning and the end of a certified process of confinement and that the last negative result comes within 72 hours of departure.

This simply confirms what I wrote in my post above. They make it willfully nearly impossible to come. How can one have such ridiculous ideas, deviating from each recommendation of real healths specialists in the rest of the world?

 

One must undersstand that in the Thai elite and ruling class, different factions fight against each other. They are only united against those how are seen as inferiour in the Sakdina pyramide below them.

 

To make this more clear, I give an example: Imagine a country with some strong Mafia organisations. These organisations there are unified against the public, but nevertheless compete and fight against each other. What happens in Thailand is quite similar. I assume that some members of the TAT are honestly willing to revive tourism. But whenever they try, someone higher up calls one of these so called "medical experts" (we all know these demagogues from their daily babbling), to revive and boost xenophobia and Covid-paranoia again and again, because this someone follows another aganda and therefore does not want foreigners coming into the country now.

 

And now look to the citation above. This exactly is happening now again.

I've noticed in the debate re lockdown, people pro lockdown are quite aggressive and insulting. Perhaps not so bad here, certainly on bookface. Also like to lump any opposition in together with the loonies. I think it is either a hostile reaction generated by fear, or a Stockholm syndrome particularly in the case of those defending Premier Andrews in Victoria Australia. Some very clever ones are using it as a first line of defence, defending the indefensible, attack being one of the best forms of defence, for when the inevitable analysis emerges that extreme lockdown and forcing the world into another great depression was not the best solution.

When the temple boy was sent to the hospital he wasn't tested.  "Just a cold.  Bpen wat!"  Yeah, ok.    I was around the kid's coughing and snottering and a few days later started the sniffles and sore throat.  I didn't worry, just took vitamin C and got daily sun (vitamin D).
Now they'll be those out there saying it could not have possibly been Covid.  Ok, maybe not.  Without testing you'll never know.  And there was no desire to test at the hospital.  But! - This virus that passed through the community like a hot knife through butter wasn't slowed down one iota by masks, hand washing, and social distancing.  I was affected for about 7 days. Many of the people around me languished with upper respiratory infection symptoms for two weeks or more.

So, you can choose to live in fear.  Close your businesses, kill the economy, blame it on foreigners.  Or you can get off your knees and accept that fact that you and 99.96% of the human population is going to survive The Year of Covid and get on with living. 

But, like most in the world, the hapless majority aren't ready.  So we continue....

I wouldn't do it.  Temperatures are dropping back home, winter is around the corner, but I'd be making vacation plans throughout Canada, if I was hankering for a "road" trip.  I wouldn't enlist for the steeplechase, for a mere few weeks of Thainess.   

 

I could list a couple of dozen international places with beaches and a Thai restaurant open to tourists, on bits of paper, throw them in a hat and book the one that I pull.  No grief, no azz-backwards uncertainties, no steeplechase, no obvious greasy feeling financial burden.

 

I went through the repatriation flight, ASQ, CV19 insurance, 4 CV19 tests, Fit to Fly medicals, arrival certificate, visa renewal, ,...the whole shemozzle, to be reunited with my wife.   I would have never done it for a "vacation".

Agree with some parts and less with others. It won't be easy for Thailand to revert to less tourism because the Thais have based such a huge part of their economy on it without preparing the workforce for any sort of structural transition. 

 

Where will millions of very poorly skilled Thais transition to? Who will train them? What competent Thai government officials will steer the country with competent policy? 

 

Thailand is going to be hurting for the next 3-5 years.

I guess I am one of those that you claim to be  "really stupid" , as the number of people dying from Covid doesn't reflect the extent of the 'serious impacts later' that are very real. I am utilizing data presented in the well known (for non stupid people, at least) Lancet journal, which has just about the best reputation for accuracy within the world of medical data. 

 

There are two main problems with your logic: 1. Your claim rejects the law of large numbers, and 2. It assumes that one of two things happen; you die or you're 100% fine. For every one person that dies, 19 more require hospitalization, 18 of those will have heart disease for the rest of their life, 10 will have permanent lung damage, 3 will have strokes, and 2 will have neurological damage. 

Clearly, one wonders how people could be so stupid to believe nonsense, but it seems that many people do.

This entire thing has gotten ridiculous.  Seems to be same as politics, there can be no discussion you are declared for one side or the other at that's that.

 

 

In a few years truth will be known when the number of total deaths for all causes are tabulated and charted through out the world.
