Sizzler joins the list of chains declaring Chapter 11 due to COVID

That appears to be the case for Sizzler USA, which filed for bankruptcy Monday in California, joining the growing list of companies that have succumbed to financial struggles caused by the pandemic. Restaurants in particular have been under severe pressure given varying state mandates restricting or limiting indoor dining, and the recent finding that restaurant dining sharply increases COVID spread. California Pizza Kitchen also recently filed for bankruptcy.

In a statement, Sizzler said that “the filing is a direct result of the financial impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the casual dining sector, particularly long-term indoor dining closures and landlords’ refusal to provide necessary rent abatement.”

Indeed, many retail establishments from Gap to other restaurant chains have been negotiating with landlords to try and renegotiate or delay rent payments as the pandemic lingers on.

This is a real shame, Sizzler were one of the great restaurants years ago where you could go and get a very good decent meal and eat all you want from the fresh salad bar.

Those days are gone, I know there are only approximately two Sizzlers left in Australia, all the rest have closed down.

I expect the Thailand one's will shut down shortly based on this news.

Better get over to Bangkapi or Eastville Central for my last & final Sizzler.

Last checked yesterday, Sizzler at Future Rangsit is still open.

Wow, did not know that sizzler was an American brand.

Last had a meal in a sizzler back in 1998 and usually did not like the taste or look of the food.

See in Bangkok they have adapted the brand a bit and have a few pop up stores on some BTS stations selling quick take out food, but have never seen anyone buying anything.

Seems US chain restaurants are prolific in many countries around the world.

Right. Swensen's was originally a US chain. It failed there but is going strong in Thailand.

Sizzler has great bacon-cheese burgers.  Love the salad bar as well.  On an intensive diet/exercise routine now and can only look at photos.  14 more kgs. to go (a few more weeks) and I'll be eating the real thing.  Happy to hear that Sizzler in Thailand will not be affected.

Unless Sizzler US is completely different from Sizzler TH, this is no loss. What they sell as steaks can hardly be identified as such. Looks, tastes and feels like leftover pieces from a meat factory. I did notice though that some people like their all you can eat salad bar. Personally I’ve never returned after one bite of what was supposed to be pork chop (but tasted like a rotting shoe) in Pattaya many many years ago.

I hope you're wrong about the Thailand locations of Sizzler.    I agree that Sizzler is a good  meal option for a  very reasonable  price.    The one that the Mr.s and I usually go to  is  hanging on but with the few customers there when we're there, I doubt it can continue much  longer.

Sizzler Thailand is operated by a totally different entity, The operations are under SLRT Limited, a subsidiary of The Minor Food Group Plc, one of Thailand's most successful restaurant operators, so it is unlikely they will fall into Bankruptcy as well.  The one I hit up once a week, and for the Salad Bar is in Central World.  It is always busy, as well as the one in Central Lat Prao.

For the kids, the Sissler salad bars on a week end in Bakersfield ,Ca  was finger dippin good! Grab a hand full of this  or dip your finger in the salad dressing for a taste test

There are two branches there. The upstairs one was busy at lunchtime last week.

I like Sizzlers.

When I was hyper busy at work and putting on long hours I used to call in at Sizzlers on my way home twice a week, their mains and salad bar are a great start to maintaining a balanced diet if time for home cooking is short.

Had my first in 68 in the USA. Though I think it was called Sizzling Sirloin. I've not seen them other countries and they are not allowed in Europe to due restrictions on American beef fed on anti bionics, growth hormones  and GM crops. O visited one in Bangkok 20 years ago but found the food very anodyne

The few times I've been to Sizzler, I found the 'steaks' to be of the processed "turkey ball' / deli type. Bland and tasteless.

The salad bar is great though. I would imagine the place is popular with vegetarians..????

Still, a damn shame that another large business finds itself and it's staff on the scrapheap due to this BS pandemic.
