webfact
Sizzler joins the list of chains declaring Chapter 11 due to COVID Lee Clifford Fortune That appears to be the case for Sizzler USA, which filed for bankruptcy Monday in California, joining the growing list of companies that have succumbed to financial struggles caused by the pandemic. Restaurants in particular have been under severe pressure given varying state mandates restricting or limiting indoor dining, and the recent finding that restaurant dining sharply increases COVID spread. California Pizza Kitchen also recently filed for bankruptcy. In a statement, Sizzler said that “the filing is a direct result of the financial impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the casual dining sector, particularly long-term indoor dining closures and landlords’ refusal to provide necessary rent abatement.” Indeed, many retail establishments from Gap to other restaurant chains have been negotiating with landlords to try and renegotiate or delay rent payments as the pandemic lingers on. Popular Post nemo38
Who is going to be held responsible for the deaths due to despair for this lock down? We have seen unprecedented destruction of wealth in the middle class, and that money has gone to the billionaires. Bezos went from 87 billion to 202 billion. If we had ignored Covid no one would have noticed. 19 4 6 3
Popular Post steven100
This is a real shame, Sizzler were one of the great restaurants years ago where you could go and get a very good decent meal and eat all you want from the fresh salad bar. Those days are gone, I know there are only approximately two Sizzlers left in Australia, all the rest have closed down. I expect the Thailand one's will shut down shortly based on this news. Better get over to Bangkapi or Eastville Central for my last & final Sizzler. 8

I agree that Sizzler is a good meal option for a very reasonable price. The one that the Mr.s and I usually go to is hanging on but with the few customers there when we're there, I doubt it can continue much longer.

Still plenty of customers as its popular with Thais. You can't beat a free salad bar. 5
Popular Post Phuketshrew
Yep, Sizzler in Chiang Mai was always good years ago. It was great to watch the sheer inventiveness of Thai diners when salad stacking on a single plate. 1

userabcd
Wow, did not know that sizzler was an American brand. Last had a meal in a sizzler back in 1998 and usually did not like the taste or look of the food. See in Bangkok they have adapted the brand a bit and have a few pop up stores on some BTS stations selling quick take out food, but have never seen anyone buying anything. Seems US chain restaurants are prolific in many countries around the world. Edited September 23, 2020 by userabcd

Popular Post Thailand
Interesting conversation with a Chiang Mai restaurant owner in Chiang Mai yesterday. He reckons his business is up 50% since the advent of Covid basically all of which came from new customers finding his restaurant and ordering via the likes of Grab. I wonder how many others have had success with that approach.

Popular Post Pattaya Spotter
Those of us fortunate enough to find ourselves in Thailand during this pandemic are truly lucky. As this bankruptcy shows, many other countries/cities are still on full & partial lockdowns and major cities like NYC, LA, and SF still don't have indoor dining. Other countries like Isreal, the UK, and much of Europe are experiencing second waves of infections and heading into a new series of lockdowns. While here in Thailand, we've had low to no infections for months and businesses have been fully open for months.

Tippaporn
Sizzler has great bacon-cheese burgers. Love the salad bar as well. On an intensive diet/exercise routine now and can only look at photos. 14 more kgs. to go (a few more weeks) and I'll be eating the real thing. Happy to hear that Sizzler in Thailand will not be affected. Edited September 23, 2020 by Tippaporn
welovesundaysatspace
Unless Sizzler US is completely different from Sizzler TH, this is no loss. What they sell as steaks can hardly be identified as such. Looks, tastes and feels like leftover pieces from a meat factory. I did notice though that some people like their all you can eat salad bar. Personally I’ve never returned after one bite of what was supposed to be pork chop (but tasted like a rotting shoe) in Pattaya many many years ago. And often a major disappointment. 3

Sizzler Thailand is operated by a totally different entity, The operations are under SLRT Limited, a subsidiary of The Minor Food Group Plc, one of Thailand's most successful restaurant operators, so it is unlikely they will fall into Bankruptcy as well. The one I hit up once a week, and for the Salad Bar is in Central World. It is always busy, as well as the one in Central Lat Prao.

huangnon
The few times I've been to Sizzler, I found the 'steaks' to be of the processed "turkey ball' / deli type. Bland and tasteless. The salad bar is great though. I would imagine the place is popular with vegetarians..???? Still, a damn shame that another large business finds itself and it's staff on the scrapheap due to this BS pandemic.
