I'm changing my portable water filter medium.

In one filter I am installing Zeolite media.

I have done some calculations and worked out that with my 1252 Treatton cylinder filter (12" x 52") it will require 84.8 kg of Zeolite media to completely fill it.

My questions are: do you fill the filter half full, or a quarter full or completely full of media?

I suspect it is filled a half or quarter full of media.

Can someone put me out of my brain cell misery with an answer please?

As a potential example, found these instructions for "ZeoSand"

Four Easy Steps:

  1. Remove sand and make needed repairs

  2. Fill filter half way with water

  3. Pour the ZeoSand into the filter

  4. Backwash until clear water comes from the filter.

See the linked webpage for more descriptive "steps" (with pictures).

Thanks again RichCor.

My lovely wifey got in touch with the mob that origionally installed the water filter system several years ago and he sent a table showing the volume in litres of the media to be installed. Seemed strange to give the volume of media when you buy the stuff in 25 kg bags. But, makes sense (I hope) as all the media has different density and mass, so giving the volume needed in litres makes sense.

So I reconed that I would half fill the tank or 42 kgs of media.

The water guy said fill with 2 bags, so that's 50kg.

No need to pre-wash the media and to put in the media then turn on the pump and backwash.

I'm also replacing the Active Carbon filter material with Echo Clear and also the pool sand filter media with Echo Clear glass media.
