Granted, this has been the role of media since the invention of the printing press. Trump's motive(s) for winning are unlike most.  Firstly, he wants to stay out of jail.  And the power of the office would give him more time to turn law enforcement and the courts to his liking.  Secondly, his company needs the business that he won't get if he's out-of-office.  Not just foreign dignitaries, but who else will pay for those $650 rooms if not the Secret Service.  And of course, Trump wants to win.  Because it sucks to lose.  The man is such a full-blown narcissist that these are the sort of stuff that he cares about. 

IMO the founding fathers of America never envisaged the possibility of a sociopath as the President, let alone one potentially drug-addled. His line on Biden and prescription drugs has shriveled into insignificance.
